Rose Garland Doily Pattern #4

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art. 65, size 20:—1⅓ skeins Turquoise and 1 skein White for each Doily.
Steel crochet hook No. 12.

Size—13 x 18½ inches.

GAUGE—16 dc = 1 inch: 6 rows = 1 inch. Each square on Chart equals 3 dc.

Wind White skein into 2 balls. ROW 1—In 1 ball of White, ch 213, sk 4 ch and working over a strand of Turquoise, make dc in remaining 209 ch. Mark the right side of Row 1 as the right side of Doily. ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, carry Turquoise around on wrong side, sk 1st dc and working over Turquoise, make dc in next 2 dc, holding back the last 2 lps of final dc on hook, draw Turquoise up thru these 2 lps to complete dc. Working over White, make dc in next 204 dc in Turquoise, keeping White pulled up taut. Hold the last 2 lps of final dc on hook, drop Turquoise, draw White thru these 2 lps, and working over Turquoise, make dc in remaining 3 sts. Always join new color thru the last 2 lps of final dc in previous color,—always  pulling it up taut first. ROW 3—Ch 3, turn, carry Turquoise around on back, sk 1st dc, dc in next 2 dc, join Turquoise and working over White, make 21 Turquoise dc, join White and make 9 dc, join Turquoise and make 69 dc, join White and make 15 dc, join Turquoise and make 60 dc, join White and make 9 dc, join Turquoise and make 21 dc, join White and make 3 dc,—always working over color not in use. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, carry Turquoise around on wrong side, sk 1st dc, dc in next 2 dc, and following Chart, make 18 Turquoise dc, 15 White dc, 12 Turquoise dc, 18 White dc, 15 Turquoise dc, 12 White dc, 3 Turquoise dc, 15 White dc, 18 Turquoise dc, 21 White dc, 24 Turquoise dc, 15 White dc, 18 Turquoise dc and 3 White dc. Continue, following Chart, thru Row 19. ROW 20—Ch 3, turn, sk 1st dc, dc in next 2 dc, 6 Turquoise dc, 3 White dc, 6 Turquoise dc, 12 White dc, 6 Turquoise dc, 9 White dc, 9 Turquoise dc, 3 White dc, 47 Turquoise dc. Holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, make dc in next 2 dc, thread over and draw thru all 3 lps on hook (a Cluster-decrease made), 47 Turquoise dc, 3 White dc, 9 Turquoise dc, 9 White dc, 6 Turquoise dc, 12 White dc, (6 Turquoise dc, 3 White dc) twice. ROW 21—Work across border and drop White on back after making 3 dc marked X on Chart, make next 3 dc in Turquoise, then work across center in Lacet Sts:—* Ch 5, sk 5 dc, dc in next dc, ch 3, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across center, ending with ch 5, sk 5 dc, dc in next 3 dc, join a 2d ball of White, make 3 White dc and continue across border. ROW 22—Ch 3, turn and work across border, drop this 2d ball of White on side towards you after final 3 White dc and continue across center with 3 dc in Turquoise, (ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 5, dc in next dc) repeated across center, make 3 dc, pick up other White ball and complete border. Follow Chart to top (Row 57). Continue making Lacet St center in same way, but reverse Chart and follow borders back from Chart Rows 51 thru 22. ROW7 88—(Chart Row 21)—Across center, make (ch 5, dc in next dc) 15 times across center. ROW 89—(Chart Row 20)—In center ch-5 sp in this row make 6 dc,—to increase 1 dc (which was dropped in Row 20). In all other ch-5 sps make 5 dc, with dc in dc between sps. Also in this row, fasten off 1 ball of White. Continue, following Chart, from Row 19 thru Row 1. Fasten off both threads on back

Stretch and pin doily right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
