MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 1 ball of White, Ecru or Cream, or 2 balls of any color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
Millinery wire.
A bunch of flowers.

GAUGE: 10 sts make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.

TOP (Heart Shape) … Ch 43. 1st row: 3 tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in next 8 ch, dc in next 10 ch, in next ch make 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc, dc in next 10 ch, tr in next 8 ch, 4 tr in last ch. Ch 5, turn. 2nd to 6th rows incl: 2 tr in first st, tr in next 8 sts, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, in sp make 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc, dc in each st across to last 9 sts, tr in 8 sts, 3 tr in top st of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. At end of 6th row ch 4, turn. 7th to 17th rows incl: Dc in each st across to ch-2 sp, in ch-2 sp make 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc, dc in each st across, dc in top st of turning ch. Ch 4, turn. 18th to 22nd rows incl: Dec 1 st at both ends of each row—to dec, work off 2 sts as 1 st. Fasten off.
   Hold millinery wire along edge and work a row of sc closely around, thus concealing wire and making sure piece lies flat. Press through a slightly damp cloth.

CALOT … Starting at top ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 2nd rnd: Dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each st around. Join (24 sts). Ch 3, turn. 3rd rnd: Dc in same place as sl st, dc in next dc, * 2 dc in next st, dc in next st. Repeat from * around (36 sts). Join. Ch 3, turn.
   Continue thus, increasing 12 sts on each rnd until piece measures 6 inches in diameter. Work straight until piece measures 5 inches from top. Then work 1 rnd of sl sts, being careful to keep correct headsize. Fasten off. Place heart over calot, having point of heart even with edge of calot at back. Sew heart to calot along center. Sew on flowers as in illustration.
