Sea Shells Bag Pattern #2686

Bag measures 12 inches

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, Size 5, 10 balls of White, Ecru or any color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 1.
3 yard buckram.
3 yard lining material.
An 11-inch zipper.

GAUGE: 1 shell (from sc to sc) measures 1⅛ inches; 2 rows of shells measure 1 inch.

Use thread double throughout.

Starting at bottom, make a chain about 15 inches long (6 ch sts to an inch). 1st rnd: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 2 ch, 7 dc in next ch (shell is made), skip 2 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across until row measures 12 inches, ending with an sc. Cut off remaining chain. Now work along opposite side of foundation chain to correspond, ending with sl st in 1st sc made. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * 7 dc in front loop of center dc of next shell, sc in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * around, joining rnd as before. Repeat the 2nd rnd until piece measures 8 inches deep.
   Make a paper pattern to take care of both sides of crocheted piece and lay it aside to be used later.

TAB … Ch 9. 1st rnd: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, making 3 sc in last ch. Working along opposite side of foundation chain, sc in each st across, making 2 sc where 1st sc was made. 2nd rnd: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of 1st 3-sc group, and 7 dc at opposite end of Tab, working these dc in same place as 1st sc of 1st rnd was made. Sl st in next sc on 2nd rnd. Fasten off. Sew tab to zipper. For lining instructions see patternbook page.
