SIZE 2 OR 3 YEARS
Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 5 balls of color 88 Peach and 2 balls White; or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 3 balls of Peach and 2 balls White, Size 30. For a more lustrous finish, use Clark's O.N.T. "Brilliant," 6 balls of 421 Salmon Pink and 4 balls of White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4 or 5. 3 Yds. white ribbon 1 inch wide.
Yoke
Starting at armhole side with Peach, ch 36 loosely to measure 3 inches, turn. 1st row: S c in 9th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next (1 lacet), ch 3, skip 2 sts, s c in next, and repeat from * ending with d c in last st (a row of 5 lacets). Ch 8, turn. 2nd row: * Skip 2 ch-3's, d c in next d c, ch 5, repeat from * ending with d c in 5th st of turning ch (a row of large sps). Ch 6, turn. 3rd row: (This is 1st row of diagram.) S c in 3rd st of ch-5, ch 3, and follow diagram, for each block making 7 d c. Repeat diagram 4 times in all, ending with a row of large sps. This completes back section of yoke. Continue for underarm as follows: Ch 6, turn. 1st row: 1 s c in 3rd st of ch-5, ch 3, d c in d c, ch 3, 1 s c in 3rd st of next ch-5, ch 3, d c in next d c, ch 8, turn. 2nd row: 2 large sps. Ch 6, turn. 3rd to 6th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. Work opposite end of yoke to correspond. Make a similar piece for front. Sew these short ends of front yoke to short ends of back yoke, thus shaping armhole at the underarm.
Piece Across Shoulders
Attach thread to upper right corner of front yoke, and proceed toward center of yoke as follows: 1st row: Ch 6, and work a row of 6 lacets along upper edge of 12 rows of front yoke, ch 8, turn. 2nd row: 6 sps, ch 6, turn. 3rd row: 6 lacets, ch 8, turn. 4th to 22nd rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately. Break off. Work other shoulder to correspond. Sew these two ends to back yoke in place.
Insertion for Ribbon at Waist. 1st rnd: Attach White to lower edge of yoke at one underarm joining, ch 3, and work 3 d c over each row all around bottom of yoke. Join with sl st to ch-3 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, 1 d tr in next d c, * ch 2, skip 2 d c, 1 d tr in each of next 2 d c, and repeat from * around, joining last d tr to ch-4 first made. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, 1 d c in each d tr, and 2 d c under each ch-2 all around. Break off White.
Skirt
Entire skirt is made in shell sts and lacets. 1st rnd: Attach Peach to last White d c of insertion made, ch 3, 2 d c in same st from which ch-3 started, ch 2, 3 d c in same st (this forms a shell). * Ch 3, skip 3 d c, s c in next, ch 3 (a lacet), skip 3 d c, 3 d c in next st, ch 2, 3 d c in same st (another shell), and repeat from * around, ending with a lacet. Do not join rnds but keep on working in a spiral. 2nd rnd: Shell in shell, with ch-5's between shells. 3rd rnd: Shell in shell, with lacets between shells. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rnds alternately for entire work making first 9 rnds in Peach, next 4 rnds White, next 5 rnds Peach, next 4 rnds White, next 5 rnds Peach, next 4 rnds White and last 6 rnds Peach. Add a few more rnds in Peach if longer skirt is desired.
Neck and Armhole Finishing. Finish neck and armholes with an insertion worked same as waist insertion using White and adding the following rnd: * Ch 3, skip 3 d c, 5 d c with a ch-3 p between each d c in next st, ch 3, skip 3 d c, s c in next, and repeat from *. Pass ribbon through insertions and make bows as desired.
