Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 10, 11 balls of Sport Green and 12 balls Autumn Glow; or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 10, 8 balls of Sport Green and 9 balls of Autumn Glow.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.

Gauge: 6 group-sts make 1 inch; 2 stripes make 1 inch.

When completed, chair back measures 11 x 17½ inches, and each arm rest 10½ x 12 inches. Strips are made individually and then sewed together.

Chair Back. Center Strip: With Autumn Glow, ch 132, turn. 1st row: Thread over hook, insert hook in 4th ch from hook, * draw loop through, thread over, insert hook in same ch, repeat from * until there are 7 loops on hook, thread over and draw through all loops (thus a group-st is made). ** Ch 1, skip 1 ch, group-st in next ch. Repeat from ** across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: * Group-st in next ch-1 sp, ch 1. Repeat from * across, making last group-st in turning ch. (These 3 rows form a stripe). Drop Autumn Glow. 4th, 5th and 6th rows: Attach Sport Green and make another stripe. (These 2 stripes form the pattern.) Drop Sport Green. Repeat pattern until 4 Autumn Glow stripes are made. Break off.

Outer Strips: Starting with ch 108, work in pattern until 4 Autumn Glow stripes are made. Break off. Make another strip same as this.

Remaining Strips: These strips are worked horizon­tally. Ch 43, and work in pattern until 12 Autumn Glow stripes are made. Break off. Make another strip same as this.

Sew strips together, on wrong side, as in illustration. Attach Autumn Glow, and work a row of s c all around edges.

Arm Rests. Outer Strips: Make 2 strips, starting each with ch 122, and working until 4 Autumn Glow stripes are made.

Center Strip: Make another strip, starting with ch 44, and working until 13 Autumn Glow stripes are made. Sew pieces together as in illustration and finish as for Chair Back. Make another Arm Rest same as this.
