Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" ORLON High Bulk Fingering Yarn or "DAWN" ORLON POMPADOUR High Bulk Fingering Yarn
5(6) ozs. Buttercup or color of your choice for Cardigan.
3(4) ozs. for Slipon.
and "STAR" RAYON CROCHET, Article 700
1 ball Baby Blue or color of your choice for set.
6 buttons for Cardigan—2 buttons for Slipon.
Plastic crochet hook size E and steel crochet hook No. 1.
GAUGE: 5 ½ patterns = 2 inches. 9 rows = 2 inches.
Directions are given for size 3. Size 4 is given in parentheses.

CARDIGAN

With Buttercup and size E hook chain (ch) 71 (76), single crochet (s c) in 2nd stitch (st) from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. 1 s c in 1st s c, 1 double crochet (d c) in same space, * skip 1 s c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, skip 2 s c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * across row to within last 2 sts, skip 1 s c, s c in last s c, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row. 1 s c, 1 d c in same space, * skip 1 d c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c (pattern), repeat from * across row ending with skip 1 d c, s c in last s c, 28 (30) patterns, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row until work measures 8 (8 ½) inches.

Next Row. Start armholes: slip stitch (sl st) across 1st 2 patterns; work in pattern to within last 2 patterns, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Sl st across 1 pattern, work in pattern to within last pattern, ch 1, turn, 22 (24) patterns. Work even in pattern until armholes measure 3 ¼ (3 ½) inches from 1st bind off.

Next Row. Sl st across 1st 3 (4) patterns, work in pattern to within last 3(4) patterns, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Sl st across 1st 3 patterns, work in pattern to within last 3 patterns, 10 (10) patterns for back or neck, cut yarn.

LEFT FRONT: Ch 39 (42), s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn. Work in pattern same as back having 15 (16) patterns across row. Work even until front measures same as back to armhole.

Next Row. Work to within last pattern at end of row, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Sl st across 1st pattern, then work in pattern to end of row, ch 1, turn. Work even in pattern until armhole measures 2 ½ (2 ¾) inches from 1st decreasing point ending at neck edge.

Next Row. Sl st across 4 patterns, work in pattern to end of row, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Work in pattern to within last pattern, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Sl st across 1 pattern, work to end of row, ch 1, turn. Work even until armhole measures same as back armhole, ending at armhole edge.

Next Row. Sl st across 3(4) patterns, work in pattern to end of row, cut yarn.

RIGHT FRONT: Work same as left front reversing the decreasing and shaping.

SLEEVES: Ch 36 (38), s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. 1 s c, 1 d c in 1st s c, * skip 1 s c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * across row to within last 2 sts, skip 1 s c, s c in last s c, ch 1, turn, 17 (18) patterns. Work in pattern for 8 rows.

Next Row. Increase 1 pattern in center of row. Repeat last 9 rows once. Work even in pattern until sleeve measures 8 (8 ½) inches from beginning.

Next Row. Sl st across 1 pattern, work in pattern to within last pattern, ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until 5 (5) patterns remain, cut yarn. Sew shoulder and side seams. Sew sleeve seams and sew sleeves in position.

FRONT BAND: Place markers for 6 buttonholes on right side. Attach Buttercup at right side at lower edge and using steel crochet hook and working up right front, s c in same space, ch 1, skip ¼ inch space, s c in next space, ** ch 3 for buttonhole, skip ⅝ inch space, s c in next space, * ch 1, skip ¼ inch space, s c in next space, repeat from * to next buttonhole marker, repeat from ** up front, work a row of s c around neck, then working down left front, * ch 1, skip ¼ inch space, s c in next space, repeat from * down front, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Working up left front only, s c in 1st ch 1 space, * ch 1, s c in next ch 1 space, repeat from * up left front, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row. Working down left front work same as last row, cut yarn. Attach yarn at neck edge of right front and repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows of band, cut yarn.

EDGE: Using steel crochet hook and "STAR" RAYON CROCHET attach thread at beginning of band at left side of neck edge, 1 s c, 1 d c in same space, * skip 1 st, 1 s c, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * down left side, across lower edge, up right front and across band only at neck edge, cut thread.

COLLAR: With wrong side of work toward you and size E hook, attach Buttercup at neck edge leaving band free, 1 s c, 1 d c in same space, * skip 1 s c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * across neck edge to within last 2 s c, skip 1 s c, s c in last s c, ch 1, turn. Work 3 more rows in pattern.

Next Row. Increase 4 patterns evenly spaced. Work 4 rows even in pattern, cut yarn. Finish with edge same as on front of Cardigan working around entire collar.

CUFF: With size E hook, attach Buttercup in center st of 1st row of sleeve, s c in same space, * ch 1, skip 1 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * around cuff, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. S c in 1st ch 1 space, * ch 1, s c in next ch 1 space, repeat from * across row, ch 1, s c in last s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row 5 times, cut yarn. Finish, with edge same as on Collar. Finish other sleeve in same manner.

SLIPON

RIBBING FOR BACK: With Buttercup and steel crochet hook, ch 13, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Working in back loop of sts only for entire ribbing, work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until ribbing measures 11 (12) inches.

Working across long side, work 70 (75) s c across ribbing, ch 1, turn. Using size E hook, 1 s c, 1 d c in same space, * skip 1 s c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, skip 2 s c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * across row to within last 2 sts, skip 1 s c, s c in last s c, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. 1 s c, 1 d c in same space, * skip 1 d c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c (pattern), repeat from * across row ending with skip 1 d c, s c in last s c, 28 (30) patterns, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row until back measures 7 ¾ (8) inches from beginning.

Next Row. Increase 1 pattern at beginning and end of row (to increase: work 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, 1 s c, 1 d c in next d c of same pattern). Work 1 row even.

Next Row. Work across in pattern, ch 8, drop yarn. Attach a separate piece of yarn at opposite end, ch 6, cut yarn leaving an end to fasten. Pick up yarn at opposite end and work 1 s c, 1 d c in 3rd st from hook, skip 2 sts of ch, 1 s c, 1 d c in next st of ch, skip 2 sts of ch, 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, work in pattern across row working a pattern in last s c and 1 pattern in 3rd st of ch, skip 2 sts of ch, s c in last st, 34 (36) patterns.

Work even in pattern until sleeve measures 3 ½ (3 ¾) inches at cuff edge.

Next Row. Sl st across 1st 6 (7) patterns, work in pattern to within last 6 (7) patterns.

Next Row. Sl st across 6 (6) patterns, work in pattern to within 6 (6) patterns, cut yarn (10 patterns for back of neck).

FRONT: Work same as back until sleeve edge measures 2 ½ (2 ¾) inches at cuff edge.

Next Row. Work 12 (13) patterns, ch 1, turn. Work even in pattern until sleeve edge measures 3 ½ (3 ¾) inches. Shape shoulder same as back shoulder, cut yarn.

Skip 10 patterns at center, attach yarn in next pattern and work to correspond to opposite side. Sew side seams and shoulder seams leaving about 1 inch free at each side of neck edge.

CUFF: Attach Buttercup at shoulder edge and with size E hook, work 21 s c around cuff edge with ch 1 between each s c, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. S c in 1st ch 1 space, * ch 1, s c in next ch 1 space, repeat from * all around to last s c, ch 1, s c in last s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row 3 times, cut yarn. With steel hook and "STAR" RAYON CROCHET attach thread in side of cuff, 1 s c, 1 d c in same space, * skip 1 st, 1 s c, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * down side of cuff, across lower edge and up opposite side of cuff, cut thread. Work other cuff in same manner.

With size E hook, attach Buttercup at seam of shoulder and working across front shoulder opening s c in same space, * ch 1, skip ¼ inch space, s c in next st, repeat from * once, ch 3 for buttonhole, skip ⅜ inch space, s c in corner of shoulder, * ch 1, skip 1 st, s c in next st, repeat from * around entire neck and shoulder opening working 1 buttonhole on opposite shoulder to correspond, join, cut yarn.

Using steel hook attach Blue at front neck edge and work edge same as on cuff around front of neck edge only, cut thread. Attach Blue at back of neck and work edge across back of neck, cut thread, do not work across shoulder opening. Sew buttons in position.
