MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY POMPADOUR, 4 balls (¾ oz. balls).
Clark's O.N.T. Rug and Afghan Hook size G.
1 yd. narrow ribbon.

GAUGE: 3 groups make 2 inches; 5 rows make 2 inches.

PATTERN STITCH … 1st row: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook. * Ch 2, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, ch 2, skip 2 ch, 3 dc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Turn. 2nd row: * Sc in center dc of group, ch 2, 3 dc in sc, ch 2. Repeat from * across ending with sc in center dc of group. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 2 dc in sc. * Ch 2, sc in center dc of group, ch 2, 3 dc in sc. Repeat from * across. Turn. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows alternately for pattern.

BACK … Make a chain to measure 12 inches. Work in Pattern Stitch having 9 dc-groups in 1st row. Cut off remainder of chain. Work straight in Pattern Stitch for 6½ inches. Place a marker at both ends of work to indicate end of underarm seam. Work straight until piece measures 11 inches in all. Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT … Make a chain to measure 5½ inches. Work in Pattern Stitch having 4 dc-groups in 1st row. Cut off remainder of chain. Work straight in Pattern Stitch for 6½ inches. Place a marker at right side of work to indicate end of underarm seam. Work straight until piece measures 9½ inches in all, ending at armhole edge. Dec for neck as follows: 1st row: * Sc in center dc of group, ch 2, 3 dc in sc, ch 2. Repeat from * 2 more times ending with 3 dc in sc. Turn. 2nd row: * Sc in center dc of group, ch 2, 3 dc in sc, ch 2. Repeat from * across. Turn. 3rd row: Sc in center dc of group, ch 2, 3 dc in sc, ch 2, sc in center dc of group, ch 2, 3 dc in sc. Turn. 4th row: * Sc in center dc of group, ch 2, 3 dc in sc, ch 2. Repeat from * once more. Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT … Work to correspond with Right Front, reversing shaping. Sew shoulder seams.

SLEEVES … Make a chain to measure 9 inches. Work in Pattern Stitch having 6 dc-groups in 1st row. Cut off remainder of chain. Work straight in Pattern Stitch for 5¾ inches. Fasten off.

FINISHING … Press through damp cloth. Sew in sleeves. Sew up underarm and sleeve seams in one continuous seam.

BORDER … With right side facing and beginning at lower corner of Right Front, work as follows: 1st row: * Ch 3, sc in sp. Repeat from * up Right Front, around neck, down Left Front and around bottom. 2nd row: * 3 dc in next loop, ch 3, 3 dc in same loop, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. Work these same two rows around bottom of sleeves. Sew shells together at shoulder edge leaving a 5-inch neck. Cut ribbon in half. Make 3 small loops at one end of each piece of ribbon, and sew at neck edge, as in illustration.
