CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY POMPADOUR, 8 balls (¾ oz. balls) for set. If made separately, Sacque takes 6 balls, Bonnet takes 1 ball and Bootees take 2 balls.
Milward's Casein Crochet Hook No. 2, or
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 1/0.
2 ribbon rosettes.
6¼ yds. ¾-inch ribbon (3 yds. for Sacque, 1¼ yds. for Bonnet and 2 yds. for Bootees).

SACQUE

Starting at neck edge ch 85. 1st row: 1 dc in 5th ch from hook, 3 dc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, * 1 dc in next ch, 3 dc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch. Repeat from * across (16 groups). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: (Pick up front loops of stitches only) * 1 dc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. (Pick up front loops of stitches on all even rows). 3rd row: (Pick up back loops of stitches only) * 1 dc in next dc, 5 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. (Pick up back loops of stitches on all odd rows). 4th row: * Dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in 2 dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * across. Work across other armhole and front to correspond. Ch 3, turn. 13th row: * Dc in next 6 dc, 5 dc in next dc, dc in 6 dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * 2 more times. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.

SLEEVES … With right side facing, attach yarn at center of right underarm. 1st rnd: * Dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in 2 dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * around Sleeve making 10 groups in all. Join last dc to top of ch-3 with slip st, then slip st in next dc. 2nd to 14th rnds incl: (Pick up back loop of stitches on all rows). * Dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Ch 3. 15th rnd: Dc in next 2 dc. * Dc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, skip 4 dc. Repeat from * around. Ch 3. 16th rnd: Skip 2 dc, * 3 dc in next dc, skip 4 dc. Repeat from * around. Ch 3. 17th rnd: * Dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. Attach yarn at lower front edge and work 1 row of sc on front edge. At neck edge, ch 5, * skip 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 2. Repeat from * around neck edge. Work 1 row of sc on other front edge. Fasten off. Press lightly through a damp cloth. Run ribbon through spaces at neck and tie. Run ribbon through sleeves and tie as illustrated.

BONNET

Starting at tip of crown, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 dc in each sc. 3rd rnd: 2 dc in each dc. 4th rnd: * Dc in 1 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. 5th rnd: * Dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. 6th rnd: * Dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Work dc's (1 more st between increases in each rnd) until piece measures 5 inches from side to side, ending with sl st. Now work loosely in rows instead of rnds. 1st row: (In this and every odd row pick up back loop of st). * Dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * across 10 sections (next section is back of Bonnet). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: (In this and every even row pick up front of stitch). * Dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center st of 3-dc group) dc in next 2 dc, skip 2 dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately until shell section measures about 5½ inches. Fasten off. Turn back first 2 rows of shells. Attach yarn at front corner and work dc and ch-1 spaces around neck edge. Fasten off. Run ribbon through spaces and tie. Sew rosettes at sides as illustrated.

BOOTEES

FOOT—Toepiece … Ch 12 (to measure about 1½ inches). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across (10 dc counting the turning ch). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in next st and in each st across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until there are 6 rows in all, then ch 35 for ankle, and join with sl st to turning ch at beginning of last row. Fasten off. 1st rnd: Attach yarn in 18th st of ch 35, ch 3, and work dc in next 17 ch. Work 2 dc at end of each row along one side of toepiece, dc in each st along other side of starting ch, 2 dc at end of each row along 2nd side of toepiece, and dc in each remaining st of chain. Join with sl st to top of ch-3 (center back). 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next dc and in each dc around. Join. Repeat the 2nd rnd 2 more times. Work 2 more rnds decreasing 2 sts at center back, and 2 sts at toe on each rnd—to dec, work off 2 sts as 1 st. Fasten off. Sew edges together for sole.

TOP … Attach yarn to center front of foot. 1st row: Ch 4, * skip 1 st, dc in next st (sp made), ch 1. Repeat from * around until there are 22 sps in all. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 2 dc at base of ch-3, * skip 1 dc, 3 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with skip 1 ch, 3 dc in next ch. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in next dc, * 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, skip 1 dc, dc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Turn. 4th row: Sl st in next st, ch 3, then working through the back loop only of each st work dc in next dc, * 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, skip 2 sts, dc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Turn. 5th row: Same as 4th row, working through the front loop only of each st. Repeat the last 2 rows alternately until opening measures 3 inches. Fasten off. Turn bootee so that ridges on top are on right side. Run ribbon through spaces at ankle, then lace up front, pulling ribbon through crocheted fabric. Tie bow.
