Table Mat Pattern #1019

MATERIALS REQUIRED.— For mat measuring 13 inches, 2 balls Royal Society Crochet Cotton, White, size 3, and 1 ball Royal Society Crochet Cotton, color 1030, Blue, size 3.

For the smaller size, 1 ball of each color. Use a double thread of Crochet Cotton and a bone crochet hook.

Begin with Blue, Ch. 5, and join to form ring.

First Row: 10 h. d. c. into ring (h. d. c. means half double crochet. To make h. d. c. thread over hook, insert hook in Ch., draw through a loop, thread over, and draw through all 3 loops on hook). Join this round and all rounds hereafter by sl. st. into the first stitch of round.

Second Row: 2 h. d. c. into each stitch of round, join.

Third Row: 2 h. d. c. into first stitch (*) 1 h d. c. into next, 2 h. d. c. into 3rd and repeat from ('*) to end of round, join.

Fourth Row: White (*) 1 h. d. c. into each of the next two stitches, 2 h. d. c. into next stitch and repeat from (*) to end, join.

Fifth Row: (*) 1 h. d. c. into each of the next 3 stitches, 2 h. d. c. into next stitch and repeat from (*) to end, join.

Sixth Row: 1 h. d. c. into each stitch to end, join. Repeat 5th and 6th rows alternately until having 4 rows of White, 1 row of Blue, 4 rows of White again, 1 row of Blue, and 2 rows of White.

FOR EDGE

Blue—1 s. c. into each stitch, all around, join, Ch. 4, skip 1, 1 d. c. into next, Ch. 1, skip 1, 1 d. c. Continue around, join, 1 sl. st. into first hole, Ch. 5, skip one hole, 1 sl. st. into next, Ch. 5, skip one hole, 1 sl. st. into next. Continue around, join, 3 s. c. into loop, Ch. 4, catch back into first Ch. to form picot, 3 s. c. into same, 3 s. c. into next loop, Ch. 4, picot, 3 s. c. into same. Continue around.

These instructions are for a medium sized mat which measures about 12 inches when finished. For a larger mat make 3 rows of Blue, 4 rows of White, 1 row of Blue, 4 rows of White, 1 row of Blue, 4 rows of White, 1 row of Blue, 2 rows of White and finish with edge.

For a smaller size make 3 rows of Blue, 4 rows of White, 1 row of Blue, 3 rows of White and finish with edge.
