MATERIALS—Lily SKYTONE Mercerized Crochet Cotton:—1-ball each White, Salmon Rose and Emerald Green. Will make 2 Mats. Crochet hook size 7. 8-inch round asbestos mats.

With White, ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring. Ch 3, 15 dc in ring join to 1st ch-3. ROW 2—Ch 3, 4 dc in same st, remove hook, insert it back in ch preceding 1st dc, catch lp and draw thru (pc st made), * ch 4, sk 1 dc, 5 dc in next dc, remove hook, insert it back in ch preceding 1st dc, catch lp and draw thru. Repeat from * 6 times, ch 3, sl st in 1st pc st. Fasten off. ROW 3—Attach Salmon Rose to one ch-3 sp, ch 1 and over each lp work 1 sc, ch 2, 1 dc, 2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 sc. ROW 4—* Ch 6, sc in back lp of sc between next 2 petals in back of work. Repeat from * 7 times. ROW 5—Sl st to center of next lp, * ch 2, 1 dc and 2 tr in bal. of lp, 1 tr, ch 2 and 1 tr in back lp of next sc, 2 tr, 1 dc, ch 2, and 1 sc in half of next lp. Repeat from * around. ROW 6—Repeat Row 4 except make ch-8 lp s. ROW 7—Repeat Row 5 except make one more tr on each side of each petal. Fasten off. ROW 8—Attach Green to back lp of sc between 2 petals, * ch 9, sc in back lp of sc between next 2 petals in back of work. Repeat from * 7 times. ROW 9—Sl st in 1st 3 ch of next lp, 5 sc, ch 2, 1 dc and 2 tr in bal. of lp, * 1 tr, ch 2, 1 tr in back lp of next sc, 2 tr, 1 dc, ch 2, 5 sc, ch 2, 1 dc and 2 tr in next lp. Repeat from * around, join. Fasten off. ROW 10—Attach White to back lp of 1st sc between any 2 petals, ch 5, tr in same sc, * ch 1, 2 tr in back lp of next sc, ch 1, 2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr in next sc, (ch 1, 2 tr in next sc) twice, 2 tr in 1st sc between next 2 petals. Repeat from * around, join to 1st ch-5. ROW 11—Sl st to next ch-1 sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, * ch 1, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, ** (ch 1, dc) twice in next sp, ch 2, dc, ch 1, dc in same sp, ** (ch 1, 2 dc in next sp) twice, ch 1, 2 dc in 1st sp on next shell. Repeat from * around, ch 1, sl st in 1st ch-3. ROW 12—Repeat Row 11 to *. ** (Ch 1, 2 dc in next sp) twice, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, (ch 1, 2 dc in next sp) 3 times, ch 1, sk 4 dc, 2 dc in next sp. Repeat from ** around, ch 1 and join. ROW 13—Repeat Row 11 to *. (Ch 1, 2 dc in next sp) twice, (ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 2, dc, ch 1, dc) all in next ch-2 sp, (ch 1, 2 dc in next sp) 3 times, ch 1, sk 4 dc, 2 dc in next sp. Repeat from ** around, ch 1 and join. Fasten off. ROW 14—Attach Green to ch-2 sp at tip of one point, * ch 6, sc in same sp, (ch 4, sc in next sp) 4 times, ch 4, sk 4 dc, sc in next sp, (ch 4, sc in next sp) 4 times. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. ROW 15—Attach Sal. Rose to ch-6 lp at tip of one point, ch 3, a 4-dc pc st (as in Row 2) in same lp, * ch 6, a 5-dc pc st in same lp, (ch 3, a 5-dc pc st in next lp) 4 times, ch 1, dc in next lp, ch 2, a pc st in next lp, (ch 3, a pc st in next lp ) 4 times. Repeat from * around, ch 1, sl st in 1st pc st. Fasten off. ROW 16—Attach Green to tip of one point, * (ch 6, sc in same lp) 3 times, (ch 4, sc between next 2 pc sts) 4 times, ch 4, sk 2 pc sts, sc in next sp, (ch 4, sc between next 2 pc sts) 4 times. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. ROW 17—Repeat Row 15 but with one more pc st on each side of each point. Fasten off. ROW 18—With White, make 7 sc in ch-5 lp at tip of one point, * (3 sc between next 2 pc sts) 5 times, sc in next sp, sc in dc, sc in next sp, (3 sc between next 2 pc sts) twice, ch 2, turn, sk 7 sc, tr in next sc, (ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, tr) in same sc, ch 2, sk 6 sc, sl st in next sc. Ch 1, turn, (3 sc in next sp, 1 sc in next st) 4 times, 3 sc in next sp, (3 sc between next 2 pc sts) 3 times. Ch 6, turn, sk 3 sc on shell, holding back on hook the last lp of each tr, make 3 tr in next sc, thread over and draw thru 4 lps on hook (a Cluster made), (ch 6, sk 3 sc, a 3-dc Cluster in next sc) twice, ch 6, sk 3 sc, a 3-tr Cluster in next sc, ch 6, sk 8 sc on next point, sl st in next sc. Ch 1, turn, 7 sc in each ch-6 lp, 7 sc in ch-5 lp at tip of next point. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. ROW 19—Attach Sal. Rose to back lp of 4th (center) sc on one lp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same st, * ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in back lp of center sc of next lp. Repeat from * around, ch 1, sl st in 1st ch-3. ROW 20—Sl st to center ch-2 of shell, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook for a p, ch 1, 3 dc in same shell, * ch 1, 3 dc, ch 4, p, ch 1, 3 dc in next shell. Repeat from * around, ch 1, join. Fasten off. ROW 21—Start casing for Mat Cover:—With wrong-side toward you, sc in White in Row 18 midway between any 2 shells of Row 19, (ch 8, sc between next 2 shells) repeated around. ROW 22—Sl st to center of lp, • (ch 6, sc in next lp) repeated around. Repeat Row 22 twice. Fasten off. Stretch and pin mat right-side-down in size to fit asbestos mat. Steam and press dry thru a cloth. Run 2 strands of elastic thread thru last row and tie.
