Cherry Whirl Pot Holder Pattern #17

MATERIALS—Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241:—1-sk. Lt. Green; Lily Pearl Cotton, size 5:—1-ball each Dk. Green and Shd. Greens; Lily Six Strand Floss:—1-sk. Scarlet. (Sufficient for 2 Holders). Crochet hooks sizes H-6 and 5.

In Rug Yarn and size H-6 hook, ch 2, 8 sc in 1st ch. ROW 2—2 sc in each sc. ROW 3—(Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times. ROW 4—(Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times. ROW 5—Widen in every 4th sc. ROW 6—Work even without widenings. Repeat Rows 5 and 6 once. ROW 9—Widen in every 5th st. Repeat Row 6. Sl st in next 3 sc. Fasten off. Turn wrong-side-up.

RIM—In Dk. Green and size 5 hook, and working tightly, make a chain about 5" longer than around edge, sc in 2d ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, 2 hdc in next, (2 dc in next ch) 9 times, (dc in next, 2 dc in next) 8 times, dc in each ch for length around edge, meeting at top of starting coil. 3 dc and 2 tr in next ch. Fasten off. Cut and rip excess chain.

LEAF—In Shd. Greens, ch 20, sc in 2d ch from hook, ch 3, 2 tr in next ch, (2 dtr in next ch) twice, dtr in 3 ch, tr in 5 ch, dc in 4 ch, hdc in 2 ch, 2 sc in end ch, ch 4, sl st in last sc for a p, 1 sc in same end ch. On other side of ch make hdc in 2 ch, dc in 4 ch, tr in 5 ch, dtr in 3 ch, (2 dtr in next ch) twice, 2 tr in next ch, ch 3, sl st in next ch, ch 3 for a stem. Fasten off. Make 2 leaves.

CHERRY—In Red, ch 4, 7 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, turn, holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, make dc in 7 dc, thread over and pull thru all 8 lps at once very tightly. Fasten off. Make 6 cherries.

LEFT-HAND STEMS—In Shd. Greens, make 2 stems of 12-ch each and one of 17-ch.

RIGHT-HAND STEMS—Make 2 stems of 15-ch each and one of 22-ch.

Sew Rim around edge. Tack Leaves, Cherries and Stems in place as in illustration. Cover a  ¾" bone ring closely with sc in Dk. Green and fasten to top edge.
