MATERIALS—Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241:—5-sks. each Hunter Green and Cream, 2-sks. Red and 1-sk. each Black and Orange (sufficient for 4-Place Mats, 4-Coasters and a Centerpiece). Crochet hook size 0.

PLACE MAT—(Size—12 x 18 inches)—1st Band—In Cream, ch 16, sk last 4 ch, dc in next 4 ch, (ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch) twice, dc in next 4 ch. ROW 2—Ch 4, turn, sk last 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next st) twice. ROW 3—Ch 3, turn, holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, make dc in last dc and dc in next ch-1 sp, thread over and pull thru all 3 lps on hook (Cluster made), dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice, dc in next ch-1, dc in next dc, dc in end sp, dc in 2d st of same sp. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, (dc in last 2 dc) made into a Cluster, dc in next 3 dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice, dc in next 4 sts. Repeat Rows 2 and 3. Fasten off on back. The right side of Row 6 is right side of Band. * Turn last row wrong-side-up, sl st in Green in last dc, ch 3, (dc in same dc, dc in next dc) made into a Cluster, dc in next 3 dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice, dc in next 4 sts. Repeat Rows 2, 3, 4, 2 and 3. Fasten off. Repeat from * thru 6 squares, alternating Cream and Green, for 1st Band lengthwise of doily. 2d BAND—Start with Green for 1st square and alternate Cream and Green for 6 squares. 3d BAND—Repeat 1st Band. 4th BAND—Repeat 2d Band. Sew Bands tog. on back, being careful to match all rows exactly.

WEAVING—Cut 6 strands Red 10" longer than narrow width of doily. Thread 2 strands to a dull-pointed needle and weave thru one crosswise row of open sps, going under 1st bar, then over and under alternate bars across. Weave 2 strands on each side of this 1st weaving, thru same row, going over 1st bar, and under and over opposite bars to 1st row,—making 3 rows of weaving thru one row of open sps. Gather all strands tog. at one end, wind around itself and tie in a knot close to edge, pulling up each strand separately to tighten knot. Cut ends 1⅛ inches long. Repeat at other end of row. Repeat weaving in each of the 12 crosswise rows of open sps. Lengthwise of each Band are 2 rows of open sps. Weave 2 strands Black thru 1st row, over 1st bar, under next, (over all red strands in next woven stripe, under next bar, over next and under next) repeated to end. Weave 2 strands Orange thru same sp, under and over opposite bars to Black weaving. Hold Orange and Black strands tog. at ends of row, tie in a knot and cut as for Red rows. In other row of sps in same Band, weave Orange thru first,—over same bars as adjoining Orange row,—then weave 2 strands Black thru same row, over the same bars as 1st Black row. Repeat in other 3 Bands.

CENTERPIECE—(Size—12 x 14 inches)—Repeat Bands thru only 4 squares in each. Repeat weaving.

COASTERS—(Size—5 x 5½ inches)—Make one Green square and weave.

Stretch and pin doilies right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
