Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 42 balls for curtains; 6 balls for runner.
J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 30 balls for curtains; 5 balls for runner.
J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, 18 balls for curtains; 3 balls for runner.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.

GAUGE: 1 pattern makes 2 inches; 5 rows make 1 inch.

CURTAINS No. 7170-A

The amount of material specified for curtains is sufficient for one pair, each curtain about 36 x 72 inches.

   Starting at one long side, make a chain about 3 yds. long (10 ch sts to the inch). 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch until row measures about 78 inches (number of d c should be divisible by 26, plus 4—counting turning ch as 1 d c). Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each of next 3 d c, * ch 22, skip 22 d c, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd and 4th rows: D c in each of 3 d c, * ch 22, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: D c in each of 3 d c, * ch 11, s c over the 3 rows of ch-22, ch 11, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 6th row: D c in each of 3 d c, * ch 22, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 7th row: D c in each d c and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 8th row: D c in each of 3 d c, ch 9, skip 9 d c, d c in each of next 4 d c, * ch 22, skip 22 d c, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 9, skip 9 d c, d c in each of 4 d c. Ch 3, turn. 9th and 10th rows: D c in each of 3 d c, ch 9, d c in each of next 4 d c, * ch 22, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 9, d c in each of 4 d c. Ch 3, turn. 11th row: D c in each of 3 d c, ch 9, d c in each of next 4 d c, * ch 11, s c over the 3 rows of ch-22, ch 11, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 9, d c in each of 4 d c. Ch 3, turn. 12th row: D c in each of 3 d c, ch 9, d c in each of next 4 d c, * ch 22, d c in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 9, d c in each of 4 d c. Ch 3, turn. 13th row: D c in each d c and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. The last 12 rows (2nd to 13th rows incl.) constitute the pattern. Repeat these 12 rows until piece measures 36 inches, taking care to complete the last pattern. Fasten and break off. Make another curtain same as this.
   Starch curtains and stretch to measurements on curtain stretcher.

RUNNER No. 7170-B

When completed, runner measures about 16½ x 45 inches.

   Starting at one long side, make a chain about 2 yds. long (10 ch sts to the inch). 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across until row measures 45 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. Now work as for Curtains 7170-A from 2nd to 13th rows incl. for 16 inches, taking care to complete the last pattern. Fasten and break off.
