MATERIALS: J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 6 balls of Hunter’s Green ... Bone Crochet Hook No. 6 ... ⅓ yard each of buckram and felt for lining ... 2 large buttons.

Use 4 threads throughout.

GAUGE: 4 sts make 1 inch; 4 ½ rnds make 1 inch.

SECTION (Make 4) ••• Starting at center, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 8 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: (Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc) 4 times. 3rd to 7th rnds incl: (Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc .group, 3 sc in center sc) 4 times; sc in each sc to end of rnd (13 sc between cent. sc of each 3-sc group on 7th rnd). 8th rnd: Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 5 sc in center sc (lower outside corner), place a marker, (sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 3 times; sc in each sc to end of rnd. 9th to 14th rnds incl: Sc in each sc to center sc of next 5-sc group, 5 sc in center sc, (sc m each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 3 times; sc in each sc to end of rnd. 15th rnd: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group, omitting the increases at marker. Break off.

Hold 2 pieces wrong sides together and, working through both thicknesses, make sc in each sc across one short side (front). Join other 2 sections in same way (back). Join back and front together to form bag.

TOP ••• 1st rnd: Sl st in next 8 sc, sc in each sc across front to last 8 sc of side joining, skip 16 sc, sc in each sc across back to last 8 sc of opposite side joining. 2nd to 11th rnds incl: Sc in teach sc around. Sl st in next sc. Break off. To form 4 corners, place side seams against lower edge of Top and sl st edges together.

HANDLE ••• Ch 48. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Hold long sides together and, working through both thicknesses, make sc in each sc across. Break off.

BUTTON TAB (Make 2) ••• Starting at center, ch 22. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 10 ch, skip next 9 ch, sc in last ch and in next 8 ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in next 11 ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc m each sc across. Break off.

Line bag with buckram and lining material as far as top. Turn back one half of top to right side and tack in place. Sew ends of handle to bag inside top. Sew on button tabs inside top 2 ½ inches in from each end. Sew buttons opposite buttonloops.
