MATERIALS—DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 30:—1-ball Salmon Rose; Lily MERCROCHET COTTON size 30:—3-large balls Pastels (DAISY and MERCROCHET are interchangeable, and may be substituted as preferred); Lily Tatting Cotton:—1-ball Pink; Lily Six Strand Floss:—1-sk. each Rose, Blue, Lavender and Lt. Green, and scraps of Red, Golden Tan and Yellow. Crochet hooks Nos. 12 and 14. 1-yd. Lt. Green organdy.

SKIRT—Starting at top with Salmon Rose and No. 12 hook, ch 10, sc in 2d ch from hook, sc in each ch across. ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, dc in 1st sc, (dc in next sc, 2 dc in next) 4 times. ROW 3—Ch 3, turn, dc in 1st dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 4 times, dc in end ch-3. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, dc in 1st dc, (dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 4 times, dc in 2 end sts. ROW 5—Ch 3, turn, dc in each dc, dc in end ch. Repeat Row 5 twice. ROW 8—Repeat Row 5 but make 2 increases across row. (To increase, make 2 dc in 1 dc). Repeat Rows 5 and 8 three times. ROW 15—Ch 3, turn, dc in 1st dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) twice, * hdc in 2 dc, sc in next dc, hdc in 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in next 9 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * to *, dc in next 4 sts. ROW 16—Ch 5, turn, tr in 1st 5 dc, * dc in next st, 2 dc in next, hdc in 2 sts, sc in 2 sts, sk next st, sl st in next st, sk next st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next, 2 tr in next, * tr in 9 sts, 2 tr in next. Repeat from * to *, tr in next 4 sts. Fasten off.

BODICE—Join to top of Skirt, ch 3, dc in 1st 8 sts, 2 dc in end st. ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in 1st dc, dc in next 9 dc, 3 dc in end st. ROW 3—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in 1st dc, dc in next 2 dc, hdc in 2 dc, sc in 5 dc, hdc in 2 dc, dc in 2 dc, 3 dc in end st. Sleeve—Ch 5, 5 tr and 5 dc across end of last row. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st 3 dc, hdc in 2 dc, dc in 2 tr, (2 tr in next tr) 3 times. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st tr, (sk 1 st, sc in next st) 6 times. ROW 4—Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st sc, (sk 1 sc, sc in next sc) 3 times. Fasten off. Join to ch-3 at other end of Row 3 of Bodice and repeat Sleeve.

COLLAR—With Tatting Cotton and No. 14 hook, ch 5, dc in 5th ch from hook to form a ring, (ch 4 and without turning, dc in last ring to form another ring) 5 times. ROW 2—Ch 6, tr in last ring, (ch 1, tr) twice in same ring, (ch 1, tr) 3 times in each remaining ring, ch 1, tr in same end ring. ROW 3—Ch 5, turn, sc in 1st ch-1 sp, (ch 4, sc in next sp) repeated across. Fasten off. Sew Row 1 around neck of Bodice. With Blue Floss, make a French Knot in center of each ring in Row 1.

ARM—With Tatting Cotton, ch 24, sc in 2d ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc, 2 dc, 4 hdc, 5 dc and 9 tr on bal. of ch. Fasten off. Tack last tr in left Sleeve. Make 2nd Arm, turn wrong-side-up and sew in right Sleeve.

NECK—With Tatting Cotton, ch 6, sc in 2d ch from hook, sc in each ch across. ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, dc in 5 sc. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, sc in 5 dc. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, 3 dc in 1st sc, dc in next 3 sc, 3 dc in end sc. ROW 5—Ch 3, turn, 3 dc in 1st dc, dc in next dc, (2 tr in next dc) 5 times, dc in next dc, 3 dc in end dc. Fasten off. Sew under top of Bodice.

HEAD—Starting at chin with Tatting Cotton, ch 6, sc in 2d sc from hook, hdc, dc, hdc and sc on bal. of ch. ROW 2—Ch 2, turn, hdc and sc in 1st sc, sc in each st across with sc and hdc in end st. Repeat Row 2 twice. ROW 5—Ch 1, turn, sc in 11 sts. Repeat Row 5 twice. ROW 8—Ch 1, turn, sk 1st sc, sc in each sc across to 3d from end, draw up a lp in 2 end sc, thread over and draw thru 3 lps on hook (sc-decrease made). Repeat Row 8 three times (3 sc in final row). ROW 9—Ch 1 and work 35 sc around head. Join and fasten off. Bonnet—Mark center sc on chin, sk next 6 sc and working in back lps only, make sc in next 2 sc with Salmon Rose and size 12 hook, hdc in next 2 sc, dc in next sc, 2 dc in next, tr in next, (2 tr in next) 8 times, 1 tr in next, 2 dc in next, dc in next, hdc in 2 sc, sc in 2 sc, sl st in next sc. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, sk sl st and working in both lps, make sc in next 9 sts, (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next) twice, (2 dc in next st, dc in next) 3 times, (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next) twice, sc in 8 sts, sl st in end sc. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sl st in next st, (ch 1, sl st in next st) repeated around last row. Fasten off. Face—Make Blue French Knots for eyes. Outline eyes, make eyebrows and tiny nose dots of Black sewing cotton.

Embroider mouth with scrap of Red Floss. With Golden Tan, make a row of Knots around top half of head for hair. Sew head over top of neck.

PETTICOAT FRILLS—With Tatting Cotton, ch 8, join with sl st for a ring. Ch 7, tr in ring, (ch 1, tr) 9 times in ring. ROW 2—Ch 6, turn, sc in 1st ch-1 sp, (ch 4, sc in next sp) 9 times. Fasten off. Make two. Sew between scallops on bottom of skirt.

SHOE—Split Blue Floss in half. With 3 threads and No. 12 hook, ch 10, sc in 2d ch from hook, hdc and 7 dc on bal. of ch. Fasten off. Make two. Lap tops and tack under bottom of skirt between Petticoat Frills.

BELT—With 3 threads Blue, ch 16. Fasten off. Sew around waist in a down curve.

LEAF—Split Green Floss in half. With 3 threads ch 8, * sl st in 8th ch from hook, (ch 7, sl st in same st) twice, * ch 22. Repeat from * to *. Fasten off. Make three.

FLOWER—Split Rose Floss in half. With 3 threads ch 6, sl st in 6th ch from hook, (ch 5, sl st in same st) 5 times. Fasten off. Make 4 Flowers each in Rose, Blue and Lavender. Make a Yellow French Knot in center of each Flower. Sew one Leaf and one of each color Flower on bottom of skirt above each Petticoat Frill. Tack hands tog. in center of skirt under a bouquet of one Leaf and 3 Flowers. Tack remaining 3 Flowers on right side of Bonnet. Make 3 Maids.

Cut apron about 22" x 26". Make ⅛" hem on 2 ends and one long side. Cut an oval paper pattern 5" x 6¼". Cut 3 ovals of organdy. Turn edge over ⅛". Sew on apron, one in center 3" from bottom and one on each side 4½" from bottom. Sew a Maid in center of each oval.

FRILL—With Pastels and No. 12 hook, ch 6, dc in 6th ch from hook, (ch 5, dc in previous ring) repeated * for length around an oval, join with row untwisted, sc in 1st lp. ROW 2—Ch 7, tr in same lp, ch 2, tr in same lp, (ch 2, tr) 3 times in each lp around, ch 2, sl st in 5th st of 1st ch-7. ROW 3—Sc in next ch-2 sp, (ch 4, sc in next sp) repeated around. Fasten off. Sew over hem of an oval. Repeat on each oval.

RUFFLE—Repeat Row 1 of Frill to * for length around apron over hems, allowing for extra fullness at 2 bottom corners. ROW 2—Ch 7, turn, tr in 1st lp, ch 2, tr in same lp, (ch 2, tr) 3 times in each lp around. ROW 3—Ch 6, turn, sc in 1st ch-2 sp (ch 4, sc in next sp) repeated around. ROW 4—Ch 8, turn, tr in 1st lp, (ch 3, tr in next lp) repeated around. ROW 5—Ch 7, turn, sc in 1st ch-3 sp, (ch 5, sc in next sp) repeated around. ROW 6—Ch 9, turn, tr in 1st lp, (ch 4, tr in next lp) repeated around. ROW 7—Ch 8, turn, sc in 1st ch-4 sp, (ch 6, sc in next sp) repeated around. Fasten off. Sew around apron over hem. Gather top of apron to 15". Cut a band 4" wide, double and sew over gathers. Cut 2 ties 3½" wide and 30" long. Hem one end and 2 long sides of each. Pleat other end and insert one in each end of band.

Steam and press apron on back.
