Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED
8 ozs. Purple or color desired
1 oz. Pink or contrasting color
Kapok or cotton for filling
2 small black buttons for eyes
Plastic crochet hook No. 3 or F

Starting at front leg, ch 14, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn and work 8 rows even. (Ch 1 to turn each row.)
10th Row—Increase 1 st at end of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows once.
14th Row—Repeat 10th row and work 3 rows even.
18th Row—1 s c in each s c, ch 30, turn and work 29 s c on ch and 1 s c in each s c.
20th Row—Increase 1 st at end of row and work 3 rows even.
24th Row—Increase 1 st at end of row.
25th Row—Work 1 s c in each s c, ch 20, turn.
26th Row—Work 19 s c on ch, 1 s c in each s c.
27th to 30th Rows—Work 1 s c in each s c.
31st Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat last 2 rows once.
35th to 40th Rows —Decrease 1 st at beginning of each row.
41st Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row.
42nd Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row.
43rd Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row.
44th Row—Work even.
45th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row.
46th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row, work 1 s c in each of the next 20 s c, ch 1, turn.
47th Row—Work even.
48th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row.
49th to 54th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of each row, cut yarn.
HIND LEG—Join yarn in first s c of 19th row and work 1 s c in each of the next 14 s c, 2 s c in next s c, ch 1, turn and work 2 rows even.
4th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows once.
8th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 10 rows even, cut yarn.
Work another section in same manner.
TRUNK—Join yarn in first s c at lower part of head and work 1 s c in each of the first 14 s c, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row—1 s c in each s c.
3rd Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows 5 times.
15th to 18th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning of each row.
19th, 21st and 23rd Rows—Increase 1 st at beginning of each row.
20th, 22nd and 24th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning of each row and work 1 row even.
26th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 4 rows even. Work 1 row of s c across front of trunk, working 1 s c in every other row, cut yarn. (This shapes the trunk.) Work another section to correspond.
UNDER SECTIONS—Work 2 sections following the first 23 rows given and work hind leg following directions for hind leg.
FEET—Ch 2, 7 s c in 2nd st from hook, do not join or turn rounds.
2nd and 3rd Rounds—2 s c in each s c.
4th Round—1 s c in each s c, cut yarn. Work 3 more sec­tions in same manner.
EARS—Ch 21, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remain­ing st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.
2nd to 7th Rows—Increase 1 st at beginning of each row.
8th Row—Increase 1 st at end of row.
9th Row—1 s c in each of the first 9 s c, sl st in each of the next 3 s c, ch 1, turn.
10th Row—1 sl st in each sl st and 1 s c in each s c.
11th Row—1 s c in each s c and 1 s c in each sl st, then sl st over next 3 sts, ch 1, turn.
12th Row—1 sl st in each sl st, 1 s c in each s c.
13th Row —Same as 11th row.
14th Row—Same as 12th row.
15th Row—1 s c in each s c and each sl st across row.
16th Row—Increase 1 s c at end of row and work 1 row of s c across long side of ear, cut yarn and work other ear to correspond.
TAIL—Ch 6, join, ch 1 and work 1 s c in each st, without joining continue working 1 s c in each s c until work measures 3½ inches, then draw up a loop on hook about 1 inch long, * 1 s c in next s c, draw up a loop same length, repeat from * all around, cut yam and trim edge evenly.
TUSKS—Ch 4, join, work same as tail until work measures 3 inches, cut yarn leaving an 8 inch length. Thread into needle and draw yam through tusk and back again drawing it up slightly to shape.
TO ASSEMBLE—Sew under sections to upper sections, then sew both sections together leaving opening in bottom for filling. Sew in sections for feet. Fill with kapok and sew open­ing. Attach ears and tusks. Fill tail with kapok and sew in position. Sew buttons in position for eyes.
BLANKET—With Pink ch 29, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until work measures 4 inches, cut yarn. Work a row of s c across each short end.
FRINGE—Cut 4 inch strands of yarn. Using 1 strand double in half and knot fringe in every other s c across each short end. Trim with sequins as illustrated.
