HOOK—Milwards "Disc" 3½ M/M (No. 9)

TENSION—1 patt. measures 3 inches in width and 2¼ inches in depth. Check your tension.

SHAWL—Using 3½ M/M (No. 9) Hook, make 487 chain.

1st row—Miss 1 ch., 1 d.c. in next ch., * 5 ch., miss 4 ch., 1 d.c. in next ch., rep. from * to end.

** 2nd row—Sl.st. to 3rd ch. of 5 ch. loop, 1 d.c. in 3rd ch., * 5 ch., 1 d.c. in next 5 ch. loop, rep. from * to last loop, 5 ch., 1 d.c. in loop, turn.

3rd row — Sl.st. to 3rd ch. of 5 ch. loop, 1 d.c. in 3rd ch., 5 ch., 1 d.c. in 5 ch. loop, * 5 tr. in next d.c., 1 d.c. in 5 ch. loop, (5 ch., 1 d.c. in 5 ch. loop) 3 times, rep. from * to last two 5 ch. loops, 5 tr. in next d.c., 1 d.c. in 5 ch. loop, 5 ch., 1 d.c. in last 5 ch. loop, turn.

EDGING

With right side facing and using 3½ M/M (No. 9) Hook, join yarn in 1st ch. of foundation ch., 3 ch., 4 tr. in same ch., * 1 d.c. in 4 ch. loop, 5 tr. in base of next d.c., rep. from * to end. Fasten off.

FRINGE

Wind yarn around a piece of cardboard 12 ins. wide and cut along one edge. With wrong side facing and using 3½ M/M (No. 9) Hook and 4 strands of yarn, fold yarn in half and draw a loop through 5 ch. loop, draw ends through this loop and pull tightly to form knot. Rep. along 2 shaped edges of shawl. Working over cardboard 1½ ins. wide, knot fringe 3 more times as illustrated.
