J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 5: 8 balls of No. 61 Ecru and 1 ball each of No. 43 Dk. Yellow, No. 11 Orange, No. 26 Nile Green, No. 48 Hunter's Green, No. 126 Spanish Red, No. 7 Lt. Blue, No. 69 Lt. Steel Blue, No. 149 Dusty Pink and No. 46-A Mid Rose, or
J. & P. Coats "Knit-Cro-Sheen": 2 balls of No. 61 Ecru and 1 ball each of desired colors for flowers.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks Nos. 4 and 7.
An oval basket 6½ x 8 inches.

HAT—Band—First Flower ... Starting at center with Dk. Yellow and No. 7 hook, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: (Sc in ring, ch 5) 4 times. Join to first sc. 2nd rnd: In each loop around make sc, half dc, dc, 3 tr, dc, half dc, and sc. Join and break off.
SECOND FLOWER ... With Lt. Blue work as for First Flower until 1st rnd is completed. 2nd rnd: In next loop make sc, half dc, dc, and 2 tr, sl st in corresponding tr on First Flower, in same loop on Second Flower make tr, dc, half dc and sc. Complete rnd as for First Flower.
Make 15 more Flowers in assorted colors, joining in the same way, leav­ing 1 scallop free between joinings. Join last flower to first flower.
BRIM ... Attach Ecru to center of any free scallop on flower band. 1st rnd: Sc in same place, * ch 6, dc in next dc on next scallop of same flower, dc in next dc on scallop of next flower, ch 6, sc in center of next free scallop. Repeat from * around. Join. 2nd and 3rd rnds: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same loop, * ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off at end of 3rd rnd. 4th rnd: Attach a double strand of Ecru to any loop on last rnd. Using No. 4 hook make 4 sc in each loop around. Join. 5th rnd: Ch 2, half dc in same place as sl st, half dc in next 9 sc, * 2 half dc in next sc, half dc in next 10 sc. Re­peat from * around. Join. Hereafter pick up back loop only of each half dc. 6th rnd: * Half dc in next 10 half dc, 2 half dc in next half dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 7th to 10th rnds incl: Half dc in each half dc around. Join. 11th rnd: Dec 13 half dc evenly around—to dec 1 half dc, work off 2 half dc as 1 half dc. Break off.
CROWN ... Attach single strand of Ecru to center of any free scallop on other side of Band. Work as for first rnd of Brim. 2nd rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same loop, * ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Do not join rnds. 3rd to 16th rnds incl: * Ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. 17th rnd: * Ch 6, sc in next 2 loops (1 loop decreased). Repeat from * around. Repeat 17th rnd until all loops are worked off. Break off.
BAG ... Starting at bottom, make a band of flowers in assorted colors as for Hat to fit around top of basket. Attach Ecru to center of any free scal­lop on band. Work as for Crown of Hat until 16 rnds are completed. 17th, 18th and 19th rnds: Continue making ch-6 loops around.
BEADING ... Ch 4, tr in same loop, * ch 3, 2 tr in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and turn.
CUFF ... 1st rnd: Sl st to center of next sp, sc in same sp, * ch 6, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around. 2nd to 5th rnds incl: * Ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Break off at end of 5th rnd. Make another band of flowers as for Bottom. Next rnd: Attach Ecru to center of any free scallop on band. Work as for first rnd of Brim. Following rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same loop, ch 3, sc in any loop on Cuff, * ch 3, sc in next loop on Band, ch 3, sc in next loop on Cuff. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
CUFF EDGING ... Work as for Brim until 3 rnds are completed. 4th rnd: Attach Hunter's Green to any loop on Edging, sc in same loop, * 5 dc in next sc, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
BOTTOM EDGING ... Work as for Cuff Edging until 4 rnds are com­pleted. 5th rnd: Attach Ecru to center dc on any scallop, sc in same place, * ch 6, sc in center dc of next scallop. Repeat from * around. Join. 6th, 7th and 8th rnds: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same place, * ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off at end of 8th rnd. Sew cro­cheted piece to Basket.
CORD (Make 2) ... Cut 3 strands of Ecru 2 yards long. Twist these strands tightly, then double these strands and twist in the opposite direc­tion. Pass cords through Beading and tie ends securely.
