Gauge: 2 patterns (1 bl and 1 lacet make a pattern) make 1 inch; 8 rows make 1 inch.
BLOUSE
Right Back. Starting at bottom, ch 120 (to measure about 8 inches), turn. 1st row: S c in 8th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 3 ch, s c in next ch. Repeat from * across (29 loops). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 4 d c in 1st loop (1 bl made), * ch 2, s c in next loop, ch 2, 4 d c in next loop. Repeat from * across, ending row with 4 d c in last loop. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: S c in 4th d c of 1st bl, ch 3, * s c in 1st d c of next bl, ch 3, s c in 4th d c of same bl, ch 3. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 2, 1 bl in next loop, ch 2, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across, ending row with s c in last loop, ch 2, d c in 2nd st of turning ch. Ch 4, turn. 5th row: * S c in 1st d c of bl, ch 3, s c in 4th d c of same bl, ch 3. Repeat from * across, ending row with s c in 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. These last 4 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 4 rows until work measures 3 inches. Next row: S c in 1st d c (1 loop increased at underarm side), ch 3 and continue in pattern across. Ch 3, turn. Continue to work, increasing 1 loop at underarm side every inch on loop rows, 2 more times. Work straight until work measures 6½ inches, ending with a bl row.
To Shape Armhole: Sl st across 1st pattern (1 lacet and 1 bl decreased). Hereafter continue in pattern decreasing 1 pattern at armhole edge (keeping opposite edge straight), every bl row until 3 patterns are decreased. Work straight until work measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, starting at armhole edge, decrease 1 pattern on every bl row until 6 patterns are decreased. On next row decrease 6 patterns at center back edge. Then continue with shoulder shaping until all patterns are worked off. Break off.
Left Back. Work as for right back, reversing shapings.
Front. Starting at bottom, ch 328 (to measure about 21 inches), turn. Work in pattern (81 loops), until work measures 6½ inches.
To Shape Armholes: Decrease 2 patterns at both ends of every bl row, twice. Then decrease 1 pattern at both ends of every bl row, 3 times. Work straight until work measures 4 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. Next row: Starting at armhole edge work in pattern across 1st 3 inches (this is neck edge), turn. Continue to work back and forth over these 3 inches, increasing 1 loop at neck edge on every 3rd loop row, 4 times in all. Work straight until work measures 7½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. Shape shoulder as before until all bls and lacets are worked off. Break off. Attach thread 3 inches in from armhole edge at opposite side and work to correspond.
Sleeve. Starting at bottom, ch 200 (to measure about 13 inches), turn. Work in pattern (49 loops) increasing 1 loop at both ends of loop row every inch, 3 times. Work straight until work measures 3½ inches. To shape top of sleeve, decrease 1 pattern at both ends of next bl row. Then decrease ½ pattern (a ½ pattern may be either a lacet or a bl, as the case may be) at both ends of every other bl row, 12 times in all. Hereafter decrease 1 pattern at both ends of every bl row, 5 times. Break off. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams.
Sew up sleeve seams. Find center top of sleeve and mark with a pin. Measure off 1½ inches on each side of pin and mark. Then measure off 2 inches on each side of these last 2 pins and mark. Remove center pin (4 pin marks in all). Make a ½ inch dart on wrong side at each pin, taking off ½ inch on each side of pin and graduating it into nothing 2 inches from top edge. Sew darts on wrong side (thus making 4 darts). Sew sleeves in. Make a box pleat 2 inches long at bottom edge of sleeve, making it deep enough to fit the arm of the individual and sew.
Waist Band: Make a chain slightly longer than your waist measurement. Turn and work as for blouse until work measures 2 inches. Break off. On front, measure off 6 inches from each side seam and mark with a pin. Sew band to blouse at waistline easing in the extra fullness of front between pin marks and side seams. Work a row same as 2nd row of back along both edges of back, bottom of sleeves and waistband, but on right back omit the s c of every other lacet, thus making buttonloops.
Collar. Attach thread to neck edge at back and work a row of ch-3 loops all around neck edge, making 2 loops at each corner. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 4, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: Make ch-4 loops across, increasing in every other loop and making 2 loops at corners. Ch 4, turn. Hereafter work ch-4 loops straight, making 2 loops at corners until collar measures 2 inches deep. Then work a row same as 2nd row of back. Break off. Sew buttons on left back to correspond with buttonloops.
SKIRT
Back. Starting at bottom, ch 440 (to measure about 28 inches), turn. Work in pattern as for blouse for 5 inches. Then on next bl row and every inch thereafter, decrease ½ pattern at both ends on bl rows, 14 times in all. Then decrease ½ pattern at both ends of every 3rd bl row, 12 times. Work straight until work measures 31 inches. Break off.
Front. Starting at bottom, ch 456 (to measure about 30 inches), turn and work in pattern decreasing as for back until work measures 31 inches. Sew up side seams. Work a row same as 2nd row of back around bottom of skirt.
Beading.Attach thread to top of skirt and work a row of s c all around waistline. At end of rnd, * ch 5, s c in bl ½ inch from top of waistline and ½ inch to the left, then ch 5, s c in s c, 1 inch from s c at top of skirt. Repeat from * thus forming a casing for elastic. Run elastic through casing.
