MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 3 balls (1 oz. balls) of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hooks Nos. 3 and 7.
2 small buttons.
2 snap fasteners.

Gauge: 5 sts make 1 inch; 3½ rows make 1 inch.

RIGHT FRONT…Starting at bottom, with No. 3 hook make a chain 10 inches long (7 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch until row measures 8½ inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Yarn over, insert hook in 1st s c, * pull loop through, yarn over and draw through 2 loops; insert hook in next st and pull loop through; yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops. Yarn over, insert hook in same place as last loop was drawn through. Repeat from * to within last st (1 st decreased); turn. 3rd row: Sl st in next st (another dec.), ch 2, insert hook in same st where sl st was made, * pull loop through, yarn over, insert hook in next st and pull loop through; yarn over and draw through 3 loops; yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops; insert hook in same place as last loop was drawn through. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 5 inches, ending at decrease edge (front). Next row: Work in pattern across; then ch 32 for sleeve, turn. Work in pattern over chain and across row, making decreases at front edge as before, until piece measures about 8½ inches, ending at front edge. Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT … Work to correspond with Right Front (keep right side of pattern on top), ending at wrist edge. Do not break off.

BACK … Work in pattern along last row of Left Front, ch 21 for back of neck; beginning at neck edge, work along Right Front. Next row: Work in pattern across both Fronts and across ch-21. Now work straight until sleeves measure 7 inches from foundation row on Fronts, ending at wrist edge of right sleeve. Fasten off. Next row: Attach yarn to 27th st from right wrist edge and work across to within last 27 sts. Ch 2, turn. Work 5 inches in pattern, omitting sleeves. Fasten off.

WAISTBAND … With No. 7 hook ch 15. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each st, picking up only the back loop. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece is slightly shorter (without stretching) than length of both Fronts and Back at bottom. Now make two ch-5 loops. Fasten off. Work sleeve bands in same way, to measure 5½ inches.

Sew waistband to garment, easing in extra width. Sew sleeve bands to sleeves. Sew up underarm and sleeve seams. Work a row of s c along Right Front, back neck edge and Left Front, omitting waistband. Sew on buttons. Fasten Left Front to Right Front with snap fasteners at waistband.
