White or Baby Colors.
Entire Set-5-1 oz. Balls.
Jacket-3 Balls.
Bonnet-1 Ball.
Booties and Mittens-1 Ball.
Any of the following American Thread Company Products may be used for trim.
1-100 yd. Ball-"STAR" Rayon Crochet, Article 700.
1-250 yd. Ball-"SII.LATEEN SANSIL", Article 101.
2-60 yd. Balls-"SILLATEEN SANSIL", Article 102.
2-60 yd. Balls-"STAR" Pearl Cotton, Article 90, Size 5.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 2 or No. 3.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 4 or No. 5.

JACKET No. 4307

BACK: With Bone hook ch 53, (about 10 inches) work 52 s c on ch, ch 1 to turn each row.
2nd Row. Insert needle in first s c, pull loop through, insert needle in next s c, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on needle, ch 1, * insert needle in next s c, pull loop through, insert needle in next s c, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * 24 times.
3rd Row. Start pattern, insert needle in first st, pull loop through, insert needle under the ch 1, pull loop through having one thread between the last 2 loops, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, continue in same manner across row (26 patterns).
Repeat the 3rd row 28 times, do not break yarn. Attach yarn at opposite side, ch 30, break yarn.
Pick up the unbroken yarn and ch 31, turn.
32nd Row. Work 15 patterns on ch for sleeve, work in pattern across back and 15 patterns on the ch 30 for other sleeve. Work 16 more rows of pattern across sleeves and back, break yarn.

FRONT: Ch 27 and work 26 s c on ch, work 30 rows of pattern, then ch 31, turn.
32nd Row. Work 15 patterns on ch for sleeve, 1 pattern in each pattern across front.
Work 6 more rows of pattern even.
39th Row. Start shaping neck, skip the first pattern, 1 pattern in each remaining pattern.
40th Row. Work in pattern omitting the last pattern at neck edge. Repeat 39th and 40th rows twice, then work 4 rows even, break yarn.
Work other front in same manner.
Place the fronts in position and sew seams, being careful to match rows. With right side of work toward you, at­tach yarn at neck of left front, work 1 row of s c down front, working 1 s c in each row, ch 1, turn, work 2 more rows of s c even, break yarn.
Attach yarn at lower edge of right front, work 1 s c in each row to neck, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in first s c, * ch 2, (for buttonhole) skip 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 4 s c, repeat from * 5 times, then work 1 s c in each remaining s c of front, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each s c with 2 s c over each ch 2. Without breaking yarn, work 17 s c up neck to shoulder, 14 s c across back of neck and 17 s c down left side of neck, ch 1, turn and work 2 more rows of s c around neck, break yarn.
Attach yarn at center of lower edge at back of jacket, work 1 s c in each st all around jacket working 2 s c in each corner at lower edge, join, break yarn. Attach yarn at lower edge of sleeve and work 26 s c around edge for cuff. Work 2 more rows of s c even, break yarn and finish other sleeve in same manner.
EDGE: With steel hook, attach trim thread at back of jacket and work 1 s c in same space with joining, * 2 d c in next s c, 1 s c in next s c, repeal from * all around jacket, join, break thread.
Work around cuffs in same manner. Sew buttons in position.

BONNET No. 4307

Ch 2, 5 s c in first st of ch, (do not join s c rounds).
2nd and 3rd Rounds. 2 s c in each s c.
4th Round. * 1 s c in next s c, insert needle in same space with last st, pull loop through, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, (this is an increase) repeat from * all around.
5th Round. 1 s c in each st and under the ch 1 of each pattern (30 s c).
6th Round. * 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, work 1 pattern increasing the same as 4th round, repeat from * all around.
7th Round. 1 s c in each st and under each ch 1 of pattern. Work 4 more rounds following the 6th and 7th rounds, having 1 more s c between patterns, in each increasing round.
12th Round. Work in the back loop of st only, 1 s c in each st.
13th Round. Work in pattern as follows, * work 1 pattern even, increase 1 pattern, repeat from * 5 times for back of neck, * work 1 pattern even, then work 2 increases, repeat from * all around, join each round, ch 1 and turn each round.
14th, 15th & 16th Rounds. Work in pattern even.
17th Row. Work in pattern even omitting the 10 neck patterns.
18th Row. Ch 1, turn, work in pattern omitting the 10 neck patterns.
19th to 27th Rows. Work the same as 18th row.
28th Round. Work in pattern, working even across front, 6 patterns down the side, 1 pattern in each of the 10 neck patterns, 6 patterns up opposite side.
29th Row. 2 s c in each pattern across front omitting the 22 neck patterns, ch 1, turn.
30th Row. With right side of work toward you and work­ing in the back loop of st only, 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn and work 3 more rows of s c.
34th Round. Work a row of s c all around working s c in each s c and 2 s c in each pattern at neck.
35th Round. 1 s c in each s c.
36th Round. Work in pattern all around, break yarn.

RUFFLE: With right side of work toward you, attach yarn in the first free loop of the 29th row. Work in pat­tern increasing in each st, ch 1, turn.
37th Row. Work in pattern even, break yarn.
With steel hook, attach trim thread and work edge across ruffle following edge of jacket, break thread.
Attach trim thread in free loop of 11th round at back of bonnet, work in s c increasing 1 s c in every other st. Work 1 more round of s c even, break thread.

CORD FOR TIES: With 1 strand of yarn and 1 strand of thread, ch 65, break yarn.

POMPONS: Over a 1 ½ inch cardboard, wind wool and thread 40 times, slip from cardboard and tie around center, tie to one end of cord, trim to shape pompon. Form a circle at free end of cord about ¾ inch in diameter, tack in position and sew to bonnet.
Make tie for opposite side of bonnet in same manner.

BOOTIES No. 4307

Ch 15, 3 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 12 sts, 3 s c in next st, working on the opposite side of ch, 1 s c in each of the next 12 sts, (join each round and ch 1 to start each round).
2nd Round. 1 s c in same space with joining, 2 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c.
3rd Round. 1 s c in same space with joining, 2 s c in each of the next 5 s c, (toe) 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 6 s c, (heel) 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c.
4th Round. 2 s c in next st from joining, 2 s c in each of the next 9 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 15 s c, * 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in next s c, repeat from * 4 times, 1 s c in each of the last 13 s c, work 1 round even.
6th Round. Working in the back loop of st only, 1 s c in each s c.
7th, 8th and 9th Rounds. Work even in pattern same as jacket.
10th Round. Start decreasing by working 1 pattern over each of the 10 toe patterns omitting the ch 1, after each pattern, continue in pattern around remainder of bootie working the ch 1 after each pattern.
11th Round. Work 5 patterns over the 10 toe patterns omitting the ch 1 after the first 4 patterns, continue work­ing in pattern with the ch 1 after each pattern.
12th Round. Work 2 patterns over the first 4 toe patterns omitting the ch 1, continue in pattern with the ch 1 after each pattern.
13th, 14th, 15th & 16th Rounds. Work in pattern even.
17th Round. Work 2 s c in each pattern.
18th Round. (Beading): Ch 3, skip 1 s c, s c in next s c, * ch 2, skip 1 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * all around, join in first st of ch 3.
19th Round. 2 s c over each ch 2, 1 s c in each s c.
20th & 21st Rounds. Work in pattern even, break yarn.
Attach trim thread and work edge the same as jacket.

CORD FOR TIES: With 1 strand of yarn and 1 strand of thread, ch 35, break and draw ties through beading.
Pompons are made in the same manner as pompons for bonnet, attach to each end of cord.
Work another Bootie in same manner.

MITTENS No. 4307

Ch 30, (about 15 inches), join being careful not to twist ch, ch 1.
1st Round. 1 s c in each st of ch (30 s c).
Next 11 Rounds. Work in pattern (15 patterns in each round).
13th Round. * Insert needle under the next ch 1, pull loop through, insert needle under next ch 1, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * all around.
Work 1 more round the same as 13th round, break yarn leaving a length long enough to thread a needle and draw end together.
Attach yarn at top and work 1 s c in each st all around (30 s c).

BEADING, CUFFS, TIES AND POMPONS: Repeat from the 18th round of booties.
Work another mitten in same manner.

CARRIAGE COVER No. 4307

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED, Article W 11.

13-1¼ oz. Skeins White or any Color desired.
Any of the following American Thread Company Products may be used for trim.
4-100 yd. Balls "STAR" Rayon Crochet, Article 700, White or Baby Colors.
2-250 yd. Balls "SILLATEEN SANSIL", Article 101.
6-60 yd. Balls "SILLATEEN SANSIL", Article 102.
6-60 yd. Balls "STAR" Pearl Cotton, Size 5, Article 90.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 4.

With White and bone crochet hook, ch 75, insert needle in 2nd st from hook, pull loop through, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on needle, ch 1, * insert needle in next st, pull loop through, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * 35 times (about 17 inches).
2nd Row. Start pattern, insert needle in first st, pull loop through, insert needle under the ch 1, pull loop through having one thread between the last 2 loops, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, continue in pattern across row. Work 85 more rows of pattern.
(Work should measure about 17 x 24 inches.)

BORDER: Ch 1, turn and work 1 row of s c all around, working 1 s c in each st and 1 s c in each ch 1 with 3 s c in each corner st.
2nd Round. Working in back loop of st only, 1 s c in each s c. (Do not join rounds or turn work.)
3rd Round. Working in both loops of st, 1 s c in each s c with 3 s c in center st of each corner.
4th Round. 1 s c in each s c with 3 s c in center st of each corner.
5th Round. 1 s c in each s c with 3 s c in center st of each corner.
Repeat the last 4 rounds 4 times, then repeat 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds once, then work 1 row of pattern all around, break yarn.

EDGE: Attach trim thread in free loop of first round of s c, 1 s c in same space with joining, * 4 d c in next free loop, 1 s c in next free loop, repeat from * all around working 4 d c and 1 s c in each corner loop, join, break thread.
Repeat edge in the next 3 free loop rounds. In the last free loop round, work a ruffle as follows: Join yarn in loop and work 1 pattern, * insert needle in same space with last st, draw loop through, insert needle in next st, draw loop through, yarn over and pull through the 3 loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * all around, ch 1, turn and work 1 more row of pattern even, break yarn. Attach trim thread and work edge all around.
