Embroidered Ball Pattern #5007

Materials: Chadwick's Red Heart Germantown Zephyr, 1 ball (30 yd. ball) each of 3 contrasting colors referred to as A, B and C. A rubber ball.

Wind color A 4 times along line that appears on ball where the two halves join. Coming back to starting point, wind same color 4 times in a direction perpendicular to original 4 strands. Extend yarn in same direction to point equidistant from original strands and wind yarn 4 times in a direction perpendicular to strands just made. Then, with a needle and color A, make over-and-over sts over all 4 strands on ball, making additional over-and-over sts at crossings, to prevent slipping off. With a needle and color B work fill-in squares at joinings as in illustration, passing needle through original color A strands as if making running stitches, until square is desired size. Break off. Thread needle with color C and work in the same manner, enlarging squares as desired. Make all other squares in same manner.
