Work starts at bottom of Front, is worked up to shoulders and continued down Back.

Front. Starting at bottom, make a chain 15 inches long, turn. 1st row: S c in 3rd ch from hook, s c in each ch across for 10½ inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Yarn over, insert hook in 1st s c and draw loop through, yarn over, insert hook through back loop of next s c and draw loop through, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook, ch 1 (a half group made). * Yarn over, insert hook in ch-1 just made and draw loop through, yarn over, insert hook under 1 thread of last loop of previous group and draw loop through, yarn over, insert hook in back loop of next s c and draw loop through, yarn over and draw through all 7 loops on hook, ch 1 (a group made). Repeat from * across, picking up both loops of last s c for end group.

Ch 1 (2 ch's in all), turn. 3rd row: S c in 1st ch-1, s c under each ch-1 between groups, s c in last ch-1. Ch 2, turn. These last 2 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 7 inches in all, ending with a group row. Then, for sleeves, ch 25, turn. Next row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each of 23 ch, then work s c's across as usual. Ch 26, turn. Following row: Work across ch's as follows: Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook and pull loop through, yarn over, insert hook in next ch and pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops, ch 1. Then work groups across remaining ch's, inserting hook in each ch (24 groups added); continue across row as usual. On next s c row add 12 ch's, and on next group row add 11 ch's, working across ch's as before. Work back and forth over entire row (Front and Sleeves) until piece measures 9 inches in all, ending at wrist edge of left sleeve. Fold piece lengthwise and mark center with a pin. Measure off 2 inches at each side of pin, and mark (neck edge). Remove center pin. Work back and forth from wrist edge of left sleeve to neck edge until piece measures 4 inches from 1st row of sleeve shaping, ending at wrist edge. Attach another ball of yarn at opposite neck edge and work other sleeve to correspond, ending at neck edge. Break off. Then work across left sleeve to within 10 groups from neck edge, ch 30 (for back of neck), and continue in pattern across other sleeve. On next row, work across sleeve, across 30 ch's and across other sleeve. Work in pattern straight until sleeve measures 7½ inches deep. Then shape sleeve, decreasing to correspond with other side, and complete Back to correspond with Front. Break off.

Borders. With right side of work toward you, attach yarn at lower edge of Front, and work s c back and forth for 1 inch. Break off. Work border of Back to correspond. In same manner, make a ½-inch border of s c on sleeves. Then, with right side of work toward you, attach yarn at Front at left shoulder, and work s c around neck edge and shoulder opening of Back. Ch 1, turn, and work back and forth for ¾ inch, decreasing at corners to keep work flat, ending at shoulder edge of Back. Do not break off, but work s c around Front shoulder opening, making two ch-5 buttonloops. Break off.

Sew up underarm and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonloops.
