Materials:
Chadwick's Red Heart Saxony, 1 ball (⅔ oz. ball).
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 2.

Gauge: 7 sts make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.

Sole. Starting at center, ch 35, turn. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across (33 d c on row). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each of next 29 d c, sl st in next st. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Skip 1st s c, s c in each of next 3 s c, d c in each of next 22 d c, s c in each of next 3 s c, sl st in next st. Break off. Attach yarn at beginning of foundation chain (at heel) and work other side of sole to correspond. Break off.

Upper. Attach yarn at center of heel, ch 3, d c in each of 30 d c at sole edge; then, working around toe to corresponding position at other side, make 14 d c; then make d c across in each d c to heel. Ch 3, turn. On next row, make 1 d c in each d c around. Break off. Attach yarn at 20th st to right of center heel, ch 3, work 1 d c in each d c around heel to corresponding position, turn. Next row: Skip 1st st, d c in each d c, turn. Following row: * Skip first st, s c in next d c, d c in each d c across to within last d c, s c in last d c. Turn. Next row: Skip s c, d c in each d c across to within last 2 sts, s c in next st, sl st in following st. Break off. Darn in all loose ends. For instep, with right side of work toward you, attach thread in 5th d c from center of toe, ch 3 (to count as a d c), d c in each of next 9 d c. Work 4 more rows of d c over these 10 d c. Break off. Sew instep to upper.

Edging: Attach yarn at center of back and ch 3, 3 d c in same st (a shell). * Skip 1 st, s c in next st, skip 1 st, 4 d c in next st. Repeat from * around, having 2 shells at instep. Break off.

Ties. Attach yarn at ankle, ch 60, turn. 9 s c in 2nd ch, s c in each s c across. Break off.
