Materials:
Chadwick's Red Heart Saxony, 7 balls (⅔ oz. balls).
Milward's steel crochet hooks No. 1 and No. 3.
2 small buttons.
5 snap fasteners.

Gauge: 6 sts make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

Work starts at bottom of Back, is worked up to shoulders and then continued down Front.

Back. Starting at bottom, with No. 3 hook ch 11. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Hereafter pick up only the back loop of each s c. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row until piece measures 3 inches. Then ch 5, turn, and make s c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch and in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Continue as before until piece measures 5 inches. Then, at side where increases were made, dec. 4 s c and work over remaining s c's until piece measures 8 inches in all, ending at straight side. Change to No. 1 hook, ch 1, turn, and work loosely along long side as follows: 1st row: * S c in next row, d c in next row. Repeat from * across, ending row with d c in last row (68 sts in all). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * S c in d c, d c in s c. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row until piece measures 7 inches in all. Break off. Then, with No. 3 hook ch 15, turn and work s c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across (14 s c). Ch 1, turn. Hereafter pick up only the back loop of each s c. Next row: S c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row until piece measures 8 inches in all. Break off. Sew this piece to top of first piece made (thus forming waistband). Attach yarn at one end and with No. 1 hook work in pattern as before (68 sts) until piece measures 2½ inches from top of waistband. Then ch 47 for sleeve. Drop this yarn, attach another strand of yarn at opposite side, ch 46 for other sleeve. Break off. Pick up first strand of yarn and work in pattern across chain, across Back and across other chain. Ch 1, turn. Continue to work in pattern until sleeve measures 3½ inches wide, ending at edge of right sleeve. On next row, work in pattern across 1st 65 sts, turn (thus starting neck shaping). Work back and forth over these 65 sts only until piece measures 1½ inches, ending at neck edge; then ch 30. Break off. Ch 4, skip 34 sts (thus forming shoulder opening) and work in pattern across remaining 61 sts for 1½ inches, ending at sleeve edge. Join the ch-30 with sl st to neck edge at opposite side (thus closing neck edge), and continue in pattern until sleeve measures 7 inches deep. Break off. Skip 46 sts, attach yarn to next st and work in pattern across to within 46 sts from end of row. Ch 1, turn. Work Front to correspond with Back.

Neck Band. With No. 3 hook ch 11, turn and work s c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Hereafter pick up only the back loop of each s c. Next row: S c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row until piece measures 9½ inches. For sleeve bands, ch 21 and work as for Neck Band until piece measures 4 inches. Break off.

Sew up side and sleeve seams. Sew neck band to neck edge. Sew sleeve bands to bottom of sleeves. Work a row of s c along shoulder opening, making 2 ch-5 buttonloops on front edge. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonloops. Sew snap fasteners across extension piece at center of lower edge.
