MATERIALS:

CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS PEARL COTTON, size 5, 2 balls.

Steel crochet hook No. 6.

A small button.

Starting at neck edge, ch 96 (to meas­ure about 10 inches). 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 14 ch, * 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 15 ch. Re­peat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Here­after pick up only back loop of each sc. 2nd row: * Sc in each sc to within center sc of 3-sc group, 3 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Re­peat the 2nd row until piece measures ¾ inch. Fasten off. Turn and work across 2 center sections only as follows: 1st row: Attach thread to center sc of 2nd 3-sc group, work sc in each sc to within center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each sc across to within 3rd sc of next 3-sc group. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc to within center sc of 3-sc group, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each remaining sc of previous row. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until center front of Bib measures 4 inches. Fasten off.

Work edging all around as follows: 1st row: Attach thread to 1st sc at center back opening, ch 4, * skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * to center sc of 1st 3-sc group, in center sc work dc, ch 3 and dc. Continue making ch-1 sps to within 3 sts of inner corner, then ch 1, thread over twice, skip 1 sc, insert hook in next sc and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, thread over, skip 1 row on side edge, insert hook in st at edge of next row and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, thread over and draw through remaining 3 loops. Now make dc sps across, working in edge of every other row. Continue in this manner, in­creasing in next 3 points as before. Ch 6, turn. 2nd row: Ch 5, sc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in sp, * ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook (p made), dc in same sp. Repeat from * once more, ** skip 1 sp, sc in next sp, skip 1 sp, in next sp make 4 dc with p's between (shell). Repeat from ** around, making a shell in ch-3 sp at each point, and skipping an addi­tional sp at inner corners. Fasten off. Work sc along two short ends at center back, making a ch-3 buttonloop on one side. Sew on button.
