Daisy Pattern #4019

MATERIALS:

CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS PEARL COTTON, size 5, 1 ball of White and 1 ball of Yellow.

Steel crochet hook No. 6.

8 pieces of medium weight flower wire, 12 inches long.

Green rubberized tape.

8 buttons, ⅝ inch in diameter.

The above material is sufficient for 8 daisies. For black-eyed Susans substitute Yellow for White and Brown for Yellow.

PETALS ... Starting at center with White, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 9 sc in ring. Do not join. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. Sl st in 1st sc made. Now work petals as follows:

First Petal ... 1st row: Ch 1, 2 sc in same place as sl st, sc in next st. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: Sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn. Ch 3 (instead of 1) at end of 5th row. 6th row: Holding back the last loop of each dc on hook, make dc in next 2 sc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook. Fasten off.

Second Petal ... Attach thread to same place where last sc of 1st row of petal was made, 2 sc in same place, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn and complete petal as before. Make 7 more petals same as this.

CENTER ... With Yellow, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in ring. Do not join rnds. 2nd and 3rd rnds: Sc in each sc around increasing 6 sc in each rnd—to inc an sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc. 4th, 5th and 6th rnds: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off.

FINISHING ... Fasten button to end of wire. Push button into crocheted center and sew opening closed. Slip petals onto wire and push up close to center. Sew in place. Wind stem with rubberized tape, inserting leaves if desired.
