Size 34-36

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 10 balls of color 106 Sport Green. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5.

Gauge: 8 sts equal 1 inch; 4 rows equal 1 inch.

Front: Beginning at lower edge, ch 126, turn. 1st row: 1 d c in 4th ch from hook and in each st of foundation, ch (124 d c—counting turning ch-3 as a d c), ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in next d c, 1 pc st in next d c (made as follows: ch 1, 5 d c in next d c, drop st from hook, insert hook back in the ch-1 and draw the dropped loop through the one on hook), * d c in each of next 9 d c, 1 pc st in next d c, repeat from * across ending row with 2 d c, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Make 1 d c in each d c, and 1 d c over each pc st, ending row with a d c over turning ch-3, ch 3, turn. 4th row: 1 d c in each of next 6 d c, 1 pc st in next d c, * 1 d c in each of next 9 d c, 1 pc st in next d c (so that pc sts of this row come directly above center of sp between pc sts of 2nd row.) Repeat from * across ending row with 7 d c, ch 3, turn. 5th row: Same as 3rd row. 6th to 50th rows incl: Repeat rows 2, 3, 4, and 5 in order.

51st row: Begin to decrease for armhole. 1 d c in each d c, and 1 d c in each pc st to within 5 d c from end of row (always counting the turning ch-3 as 1 d c). To decrease the last 5 sts on row * thread over, insert hook in next st, draw through a loop, thread over, draw through 2 loops on hook, repeat from * 4 more times (6 loops on hook), thread over, and take off 2 loops at a time for 5 times, ch 3, turn. 52nd, 53rd and 54th rows: Continue with pattern and decrease the last 5 sts of each row as done previously. 55th to 71st rows incl: Continue with pattern evenly. 72nd row: Begin to decrease for shoulder. Work pattern to within 11 sts from end of row. To decrease the last 11 sts of row, repeat from * to * of 51st row (12 loops on hook), then thread over and take off 2 loops at a time 11 times. Ch 3, turn. 73rd to 77th rows incl: Continue with pattern and decrease last 11 sts of each row as done previously. 78th to 83rd rows incl: Work evenly. Fasten off.

Right Back: Ch 87, turn. 1st row: 1 d c in 4th ch from hook and in each st of foundation ch (85 d c—counting the turning ch-3 as 1 d c), ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 1 d c in each of next 6 d c, 1 pc st in next d c, * 1 d c in each of next 9 d c, 1 pc st in next d c. Repeat from * across ending row with 7 d c. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 1 d c in each d c, and 1 d c in each pc st, to within 9 sts from end of row, ch 5, skip 5 sts (to form a buttonhole), d c in each of next 4 d c, ch 3 turn.

4th row: 1 d c in next d c, 1 pc st in next d c, 1 d c in next d c and in each of next 5 ch, and in each of next 3 d c, 1 pc st in next d c. Continue with pattern across. Ch 3, turn. 5th to 16th rows incl: Continue with design evenly. 17th row: Work across as before to within 9 sts from end of row. Then make a buttonhole and complete row as done in the 3rd row. Ch 3, turn. 18th row: Work pattern evenly over d c and ch sts. Ch 3, turn. 19th to 30th rows incl: Work evenly. 31st row: Make a buttonhole. 32nd to 44th rows incl: Work evenly. 45th row: Make a buttonhole. 46th to 53rd rows incl: Work evenly. 54th row: To decrease for underarm, work pattern across to within 24 sts from end of row, repeat from * to * of 51st row of front 9 times (10 loops on hook), then work off 2 loops at a time 9 times, ch 3, turn. 55th to 58th rows incl: Work evenly. 59th row: A buttonhole. 60th to 72nd rows incl: Work evenly. 73rd row: A buttonhole. 74th row: To shape the neck and shoulder, work across to within 13 sts from end of row, then repeat from * to * of 51st row of front 5 times, ch 3, turn. 75th row: Work across to within 23 sts from end of row, and repeat from * to * of 51st row of front 5 times, ch 3, turn. 76th to 80th rows incl: Work as before to within 5 sts from end of row, then decrease these 5 sts as done previously.

Left Back: Make to correspond with right back, without buttonholes, as this is the side the buttons are sewed on.

Sleeves: Ch 91, turn. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each st of foundation ch (89 d c in all, counting the turning ch-3), ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 1 d c in each of next 3 d c, 1 pc st in next, * 1 d c in each of next 9 d c, 1 pc st in next. Repeat from * across ending row with 4 d c, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c in each d c and in each pc st to end of row, making 1 d c over the turning ch-3, ch 3, turn. 4th row: 1 d c in each of next 8 d c, 1 pc st in next, * 1 d c, in each of next 9 d c, 1 pc st in next. Repeat from * across ending row with 9 d c. 5th row: Same as 3rd row. 6th row: Same as 2nd row. 7th row: Same as 3rd row. 8th to 20th rows incl: Increase 1 d c at end of each row and continue with pattern. 21st to 27th rows incl: Start shaping top of sleeve. Decrease 5 sts at the end of each row, as done previously. 28th to 35th rows incl: Decrease 7 sts at the end of each row. 36th to 49th rows incl: Work evenly.

Collar: Ch 31, turn. 1st row: 1 d c in 4th ch from hook and in each st of foundation ch (29 d c—counting the ch-3 as 1 d c), ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 1 d c in next d c, 1 pc st in next, * 1 d c in each of next 9 d c, 1 pc st in next, and repeat from * once more, then d c in each of next 6 d c, ch 3 turn. 3rd row: 1 d c in each d c and in each pc st. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: 1 d c in each of next 6 d c, 1 pc st in next * 1 d c in each of next 9 d c, 1 pc st in next. Repeat from * once more, ending with d c in turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: Same as 3rd row.

6th to 18th rows incl: Repeat rows 2, 3, 4, 5 in order. At the end of 18th row break off. Make another piece like this one, but do not break off at end of 18th row. 19th row: 1 d c in each d c and in each pc st to end of row, ch 51, and continue making d c in each d c and in each pc st of first piece made. Ch 3, turn. 20th row: Continue with design across (working over the ch-51). Ch 3, turn. 21st to 36th rows incl: Work as before, decreasing 4 sts at the end of each row. Break off.

   Make a row of s c spaced evenly around all edges of blouse. Cover 6 buttons with crochet and sew them in place to correspond with buttonholes. Blouse may be worn either front or back. Make a belt of d c or use a leather belt.
