COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. "SPEED-CRO-SHEEN" MERCERIZED COTTON, Art. C.44: 1 ball of No. 126 Spanish Red and a few yards of No. 10-A Canary Yellow; and

J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN" METALLIC, Art. A.64: 1 ball of No. M.126 Spanish Red.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 2/0 (double zero) and No. 6.

Bone ring.

TOP PIECE . . . Starting at center with Canary Yellow and No. 2/0 hook, ch 2. 1st rnd: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to front loop of first sc. 2nd rnd: Thread over, insert hook in same loop as last sl st was made and draw loop through, * thread over and draw through all loops on hook, insert hook in front loop of next sc and draw loop through, thread over and insert hook in same loop and draw loop through. Repeat from * around. Join to first st. Break off.

FIRST PETAL . . . With Spanish Red "Speed-Cro-Sheen" and No. 2/0 hook, ch 17 to measure 3 inches. 1st rnd: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, half dc in next 11 ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in any free back loop on center piece, carry thread under work and, working along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in first ch, sc in next ch, half dc in next 11 ch, sc in next 3 ch. Join to front loop of first sc. Break off. Make 7 more petals the same way.

EDGING . . . Using No. 6 hook, attach Spanish Red Metallic to first sc on any petal, sc in same place, * ch 2, sc in next st. Repeat from * around petal, sc in first sc on next petal and work around all petals the same way. Join to first sc. Break off.

BACK PIECE . . . Starting at center with Spanish Red "Speed-Cro-Sheen" and No. 2/0 hook, ch 4. 1st rnd: Make 15 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join to back loop on top of ch-4. Hereafter pick up back loop only. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc (1 dc increased). Repeat from * around. Join. 4th, 5th and 6th rnds: Ch 3, dc in each dc, increasing 16 dc evenly around. Join. Break off at end of 6th rnd. 7th rnd: Attach thread to 5th dc preceding joining, * ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make 2 tr in each of next 2 dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), ch 4, sl st in next dc, sc in next 8 dc, sl st in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off (right side of pot holder).

EDGING . . . With No. 6 hook and wrong side facing, attach Spanish Red Metallic to first ch of ch-4, sc in same place, * (ch 2, sc in next st) 8 times; sc in each sc, sc in first ch on next scallop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

With wrong sides facing, place Top Piece over Back Piece, placing petals between scallops on Back Piece. Sew petals and center in place. Using Spanish Red Metallic and No. 6 hook, sc closely around bone ring. Sew in place.
