Edging and Insertion Set Pattern #8268

EDGING 8268-A … Edging is made of individual sections, joined while working.

First Section … Starting at center of rosette, ch 10, join with sl st. 1st rnd: 20 s c in ring; join. 2nd rnd: * Ch 3, d c in next s c, 2 d c in next s c, d c in each of next 2 s c, ch 3, turn; d c in 1st d c, d c in each of next 4 d c, 2 d c in turning ch, ch 3, turn; d c in 1st d c, d c in each d c and in turning ch, ch 3, s c in same place as last d c (a petal); working along side of petal, ch 2, s c at base of ch-3 below, sl st where last d c of 1st row of petal was made. Repeat from * around, ending with d c in same place as last d c of last petal (5 petals). 3rd rnd: * Ch 5, s c in 3rd ch from hook (p), ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 2, s c at tip of next petal (a p-loop); make another p-loop, s c between center d c's of next petal, a p-loop, s c at left tip of same petal. Repeat from * around. Now work in rows as follows: 1st row: Sl st to between p's of next p-loop, * make a p-loop, s c between p's of next p-loop. Repeat from * 2 more times, turn. 2nd row: Ch 2, p, * ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, s c in next loop. Repeat from * 2 more times. Repeat 2nd row 2 more times. 5th row: Ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, s c between p's of 1st loop, ch 7, s c between p's of next loop, turn; sl st in loop, 7 s c in same loop, ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), turn; make d c in each of 6 s c with ch-2 between each d c (a fan); ch 2, p, ch 2, s c between p's of last p-loop; turn. 6th row: Ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, s c in front of 1st d c-bar of fan, * s c in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, s c in same sp. Repeat from * 5 more times, ch 2, p, ch 2, s c between 1st 2 p's of last loop; turn. 7th row: Ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, s c in 1st ch-3 loop of fan, p-loop, skip 3 loops of fan, s c in next loop, p-loop, s c between p's of next loop; turn. 8th and 9th rows: Same as 2nd row. Fasten off.

Second Section … Work as for 1st section to within last row. Last row: Ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 1, skip 4 free p-loops on right side of rosette of 1st section, s c between p's of next p-loop, ch 1, p, ch 2, s c in 1st loop on 2nd section, ch 2, p, ch 1, s c between p's of next p-loop on rosette of 1st section, and continue thus across. Make necessary number of sections, joining in same way.

Heading … Attach thread to 4th free p-loop of 1st rosette. 1st row: Ch 8, ** s c in next loop, ch 5, s c in next loop, ch 5, d c in next loop, * ch 5, tr in end loop of next row. Repeat from * to within next free p-loop on next rosette, ch 5, d c in next p-loop, ch 5. Repeat from ** across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Make 7 s c in each sp. Fasten off.

Scalloped Edge … Attach thread to 4th free petal of 1st rosette. 1st row: * Ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across. 2nd row: Sl st to center of 1st loop, *** ch 7, s c in next loop, ch 3, turn; 14 d c in loop, ch 3, turn; d c in each of 14 d c, turn; * ch 5, skip 1 d c, s c in next d c. Repeat from * 6 more times; turn. ** Ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from ** 6 more times, s c in next loop (on 1st row of scalloped edge), ch 7, s c in next loop. Repeat from *** across. 3rd row: Sl st to center of next loop; s c in 1st loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * 6 more times. Work each scallop in same way. Fasten off.

INSERTION 8268-B … Work as for edging, making heading on both long sides (see illustration).
