BERNAT SESAME (Germantown Weight) (2 oz. pull pouches) —2
1 BERNAT-Aero crochet hook Size J (Canadian Wool Crochet Hook No. 6)
OR ANY SIZE HOOK THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW

GAUGE: 3 h d c = 1 inch

Ch 3, join with sl st to form ring. Round 1: Work 8 s c in ring. Put a marker in work to mark beg of rounds and carry marker up. Round 2: 2 s c in each s c — 16 sts. Round 3: 2 h d c in each s c — 32 sts. From now on, work in back loop ONLY. Round 4: * 2 h d c in next st, 1 h d c in next 3 sts, repeat from * around — 40 sts. Round 5: * 1 h d c in next 4 sts, 2 h d c in next st, repeat from * around — 48 sts. Continue in this manner to inc 8 sts every round 8 times more, being sure that increases do not come directly over each other — 112 sts. Work even in h d c on 112 sts for 2 rounds. Round 16: * 1 h d c in next 11 sts, work next 2 h d c tog, repeat from * around — 104 sts. Round 17: * 1 h d c in next 10 sts, work next 2 h d c tog, repeat from * around — 96 sts. Continue in this manner to dec 8 sts every round 3 times more — 72 sts. Round 21: Dec evenly around to 58 sts. Work even in s c through both loops for 1 inch. Last round: Sl st in each st around. Fasten off. TASSEL: Wrap yarn 50 times around a 5 inch piece of cardboard. Tie at one end. Cut at other end. Tie yarn again tightly 1 inch from tied end. Sew to center of hat.
