Directions are given for Small Size. Changes for Medium and Large Sizes are in parentheses.
COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply ("Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins):
For style "A." 2 (3, 3) ozs. of No. 230 Yellow. A few yards each of White, Black and Red.
For Style "B." 2 (3, 3) ozs. of No. 737 Pink. A few yards each of White, Black, Yellow and Red.
Crochet Hook Size E.
GAUGE: 3 sc and two ch-1 sps = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch.
STYLE A—Little Red Riding Hood
Starting at back with Yellow, ch 36. 1st row: Sc in 4th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across—17 sps. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first sp, * ch 1, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in the ch-2 turning sp—17 sps. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row until total length is 5½ (6½, 7½) inches. Ch 2, turn.
Toe Shaping: 1st row: Make 3 sps, ch 1, draw up a loop in each of next 2 sps, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook—one sp dec; ch 1, work in pattern to within last 5 sps, ch 1, dc 1 sp, complete row. 2nd row: Work even in pattern. Repeat last 2 rows 2 times more —11 sps remain. Break off and fasten. Full length of slipper is 7 (8, 9) inches. Fold piece lengthwise and starting at toe end, sew front edges neatly together for 2½ (3, 3½) inches. Holding toe flat with seam in center, sew edges together. Sew back seam. Fold point of heel up ½ inch and sew to back seam.
Cord: With Yellow make a chain to measure 16 (18, 20) inches. Break off and fasten. Starting at back seam, lace through top edge of slipper and tie in a bow.
Face: Starting at center with White, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd and 3rd rnds: 2 sc in each sc around. At end of 3rd rnd there are 24 sc. Sl st in next sc. Break off and fasten.
Hood: Attach Red to any sc, ch 4, in same sc make (dc, ch 1) 3 times; in each of next 11 sc make (dc, ch 1) 3 times; ch 3, sl st in same st as last dc was made. Break off and fasten. With Black embroider 2 long sts and a French knot between the 2 sts for each eye. With Red make 4 short sts for mouth. With Black make loose over-cast sts for hair. Sew in place as shown.
Bow: With Red make a chain 6 inches long. Break off and fasten. Tie in a bow and sew in place.
STYLE B—Little Jack Horner
SLIPPER … With Pink, work same as for Style A.
Face: Work same as for Style A and sew in place.
Cap: With Yellow repeat first 2 rnds of Face. 3rd rnd: Sc in back loop of next 7 sc, sl st in next sc. Break off and fasten.
Hair: Cut 6 strands of Black, each 2 inches long. Sew to center of face. Sew Cap in place as shown. Make a bow as for Style A.
