CROCHET HOOK: 1 Bone or Plastic No. 4.

GAUGE: 5 d c make an inch. 3 rows to an inch.

SWEATER: Yoke: Starting at the neck edge, make a very loose chain of 68 sts; turn, 1 d c in 4th chain from hook, 1 d c in next chain, * ch 1, 1 d c in next 6 sts; repeat from * 9 times more, ending with ch 1, 1 d c in last 3 sts. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip 1 d c, 1 d c in 2 d c, * ch 1, 1 d c in next 6 d c; repeat from * 9 times more; ending with ch 1, 1 d c in next 2 d c, 1 d c in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first d c, 2 d c in next st (an increase), 1 d c in next d c, * ch 1, 1 d c in next 3 sts, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 2 sts; repeat from * across row, end­ing with ch 1, 1 d c in next d c, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 7th row: Skip first d c, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 2 sts, * ch 1, 1 d c in next 4 sts, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 4 sts; repeat from * across row end­ing with ch 1, 1 d c in next 2 sts, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 8th row: Skip first st, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 3 sts, * ch 1, 1 d c in next 4 sts, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 5 sts; repeat from * across row, ending with ch 1, 1 d c in next 3 sts, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 9th row: Skip 1 st, 1 d c in next 5 sts, * ch 1, 1 d c in next 11 sts; repeat from * across row, ending with ch 1, 1 d c in next 5 sts, 1 d c in top of turning chain. (Note: Yoke should be 3 inches deep). Ch 1, turn. 10th row: In working this row count the ch-1 on row below as a st. Make 1 s c in the first 21 sts, chain 8, skip next 25 sts for armhole; 1 s c in next 41 sts, chain 8, skip next 25 sts for 2nd armhole, 1 s c in last 20 sts, 1 s c in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. PATTERN: Row 1: * Draw loop on hook out to measure ½ inch, thread over and draw a loop through, insert hook between single and double loops and draw a loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops on hook (a knot stitch is made); skip 1 st, s c in next st; repeat from * across row, ending with a s c in last st. Ch 3, turn. Row 2: Make a knot stitch; * s c under double loop of next knot stitch, make another knot stitch; repeat from * across row, ending with a s c. Ch 3, turn. Repeat row 2 until the piece measures 6 inches from underarm. Do not break thread. Edge: Ch 5, turn, * 1 s c un­der double loop of knot stitch, ch 5; repeat from * across bottom of sweater up along the front edge until you come to the yoke; work in s c along the front edge keeping work flat, across the neck edge and down the 2nd side of yoke; now work remainder down in the front with the ch 5. Join with a slip st to starting ch 5. Break yarn and fasten off.

SLEEVES: Tie yarn at the center of the ch 8 at the un­derarm edge, make 34 s c around armhole. Ch 3, turn, start­ing with pattern row 1 as on sweater, work back and forth until the sleeve measures 5 inches from edge of yoke. Ch 1, turn. Cuff: Make 2 s c over each knot stitch. Ch 3, turn. Next row: Make 1 d c in each stitch across row. Ch 3, turn. Repeat last row 2 more times. Break yarn leaving 10 inches. Sew up sleeve seam. Make the other sleeve the same way.

BONNET: Starting at the center back, make a chain of 8 sts, join with a slip st to form a ring. 1st rd: ch 3, 2 d c into ring, * ch 1, 3 d c into ring; repeat from * 4 times more, ch 1, join with a slip st to top of ch 3. 2nd rd: Ch 3, 1 d c in same space as this chain, 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, * ch 1, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st; repeat from * 4 times more, ending with ch 1, join with a slip st to top of ch 3. 3rd rd: Ch 3, 1 d c in same space as this chain, 1 d c in next 3 sts, 2 d c in next st, * ch 1, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 3 sts, 2 d c in next st; repeat from * 4 times, ending with ch 1, join with a slip st to top of ch 3. 4th and 5th rds: Work as 3rd round having 2 sts more between increases. At end of the 6th rd, chain 1, make 1 s c in next 60 sts (counting the ch 1 space on row below as a st); leaves 12 sts for back of neck. NEXT ROW: Ch 3, turn, * make a knot stitch, skip 1 st, s c in next st, repeat from * across the 60 sts, ending with a s c in last st. Work in the pattern as on the sweater for 3½ inches. Ch 1, turn. Front band: 1 s c in first s c, * 2 d c over knot st, repeat from * across row, ending with s c in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Next row: 1 d c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. Repeat last row 2 times more. Break yarn. Turn back the 3 rows of d c for front band. Tack down at sides. Neck band: Tie yarn at front edge and make 54 s c along neck edge, ch 1, turn. Make 3 rows of s c. Break yarn. Trim with ribbon.

BOOTIES: Instep and sole: Chain 10 sts, turn, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining chain stitch (9 s c). Ch 1, turn. Work 1 s c in each stitch across row. Work 7 more rows of s c. Chain 30 sts for ankle; join with a slip st to opposite corner of instep. Make 9 s c along side of in­step; 9 s c across toe, 9 s c along 2nd side of instep; 1 s c in each of the 30 chain sts. Make 8 more rows of s c. Break yarn. Top part: Tie yarn at center st of chain 30. Start with pattern row 1 as on sweater but skip 2 sts between the knot stitches on first row. Work in the pattern until the piece measures 2½ inches. Finish with edge as on sweater across top of bootie. Break yarn. Sew up back and sole of bootie. Make the other bootie the same way. Trim with ribbon.
