Curtains Pattern #986

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Brilliant, 50 balls of Yellow and 41 balls of Nile Green. This amount is sufficient for 1 set of curtains.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12.

When completed, curtain measures as follows: Lower Sash Curtain—each half about 35 inches long and 32 inches wide. Upper Sash Curtain—each half about 45 inches long and 25 inches wide.

Lower Sash Curtain. Starting at top of one half, with Yellow make a chain to measure about 36 inches. 1st row: D tr in 6th ch from hook, d tr in each of next 4 ch, ** ch 4, skip 4 ch, * d tr in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch. Repeat from * 2 more times, d tr in next ch. Then repeat from ** across until row measures 32 inches, ending row with ch 4, skip 4 ch, d tr in each of next 6 ch. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each of next 5 d tr, * ch 4, d c in each of next 4 d tr, with ch-1 between each d c. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 4, d c in each of last 6 d tr. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c in each of next 5 d c, * ch 4, d c in each of next 4 d c, with ch-1 between each d c. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 4, d c in each of last 6 d c. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Same as 3rd row, but making ch-5 instead of ch-3 at end of row. 5th row: Same as 3rd row, but making d tr instead of d c. The last 4 rows (2nd to 5th rows incl.) constitute the pattern. Repeat these 4 rows until 6 patterns have been completed. Break off, attach Nile Green and continue for 2 more patterns. Break off, attach Yellow and work 2 more patterns. Break off, attach Nile Green and work 2 patterns. Break off, attach Yellow and work in pattern until piece measures 36 inches, then d tr in each st across. (This is bottom of curtain.) Make a 1-inch hem on top edge for rod to pass through. This completes one half of lower sash curtain. Make another piece same as this.

Upper Sash Curtain. Starting at top, with Nile Green make a chain to measure about 30 inches, turn and work as for 1st row of lower sash curtain for 25 inches instead of 32 inches. Cut off remaining chain and continue as for lower sash curtain until piece measures 9 inches. Then work in pattern to within 5 inches from end of row, turn (thus decreasing 5 inches). Work in pattern straight for 9 more inches. Then dec. 5 inches on the same side as before, and continue straight for 9 additional inches (piece should now measure 27 inches). Then make another 5-inch decrease, and continue straight for 18 inches, then d tr in each st across. Break off. This completes one half of upper sash curtain. Make another piece same as this.

Tie-Back. Measure off twenty 1½ yd. strands of Yellow, twist tightly, then double twisted strands and give them a second twist in the opposite direction. Knot ends, leaving a 2½-inch fringe. Make another tie-back same as this.

Cord Trimming. Make trimming cord same as tie-back, but using 10 strands instead of 20. Make cord in convenient lengths, 12 yds. of Yellow cord are needed for both upper sash curtains, and 9 yds. of Nile Green for both lower sash curtains.

Sew cord around edges, forming loops as in illustration. Rod should be passed through loops along top edge of upper sash curtain.
