Trefoil Bag Pattern #2063

Materials: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, size 5, White, 3 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4.

Ch 8, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 20 d c in ring, join with sl st to ch-3. (Join every rnd with sl st). 2nd rnd: Ch 4, d c in 1st d c. * Ch 1, d c in next st, repeat from * around, ending with ch 1. 3rd rnd: Ch 5, d c in 1st sp, * ch 2, d c in next sp. Repeat from * around, joining to 3rd st of ch-5. 4th rnd: Same as 3rd rnd, but increase in every 3rd sp by making 2 d c with ch-2 between.

5th to 8th rnds incl: Work increases over increases of previous rnd. 9th rnd: Work 22 sps without increasing. Then make trefoil as follows: * Ch 5, s c in next sp, ch 5, s c in next, ch 10, s c in 7th ch from hook, ch 5, turn, s c in ring, ch 5, s c in ring, ch 5, s c in 2nd st of last ch-10, turn and over each ch-5 work 1 s c, 6 d c, 1 s c. Then ch 3, s c in next sp of rnd, ch 5, s c in next sp. Repeat from * to end of rnd (10 trefoils). Ch 5, s c in next sp.

10th rnd: Ch 7, d c in 1st sp. * ch 2, d c in next and repeat from * across top of bag. Then ** ch 2, s c in center of 1st petal, ch 8, s c in center of 2nd petal, ch 8, s c in center of 3rd petal, ch 2, s c in middle loop between trefoils. Repeat from ** around. Then work 3 rows of sps across the top, increasing one sp at end of each row. At end of last row continue around trefoils, working * ch 5, skip 2 sts, s c in next. Repeat from * around trefoils. Then across top work ch 5, s c in next loop.

Back: Repeat 1st to 8th rnds incl. Then across sps at top work back and forth, making 5 rows of sps, increasing one sp at end of each row to correspond with other side of bag. Finish with ch 5, s c in next loop, to correspond to other top. With thread double, make 2 ch's, 16 inches long. Lace through above trefoils and fasten ends of each ch together, so that bag can be pulled together at top. Sew in lining.
