Back: Ch 77, turn. 1st row: S c in 9th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 3 sts of foundation ch, 1 s c in next st. Repeat from * along ch. Ch 6, turn. 2nd row: 1 cluster under 1st ch-3 loop. (To make cluster, * thread over, insert hook under ch-3, draw thread through. Repeat from * 4 more times, thread over, draw through 10 loops on hook, thread over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook). * Ch 3, cluster under next loop. Repeat from * to end of row (18 clusters), ending with ch 3, 1 d c in 5th st of turning ch. Ch 7, turn.
3rd row: 1 cluster under 2nd loop, * ch 3, 1 cluster under next loop. Repeat from * to next to last loop, (17 clusters) ch 4, 1 d c in 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 6, turn. 4th row: 1 cluster under 1st loop, * ch 3, 1 cluster under next loop, repeat from * to end of row, ending with ch 3, 1 d c in 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 7, turn. Alternate 3rd and 4th rows until work measures 5½ inches from beginning, finishing same as 3rd row, ch 6, turn.
Lower flap: 1 cluster under 2nd loop, * ch 3, 1 cluster under next loop. Repeat from * to next to last loop, ch 6, 1 sl st in 3rd st of turning ch. Turn. 2nd row: Sl st along to 1st cluster, ch 6, 1 cluster under 2nd loop, * ch 3, 1 cluster under next loop. Repeat from * to next to last loop. Ch 6, turn. Repeat last row until 4 clusters remain. Fasten off.
Tab: Attach thread to 1st cluster, ch 1, * 3 s c under ch-3 loop, 1 s c in top of cluster. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 1 turn. (12 s c). ** 1 s c in each st of previous row, ch 1, turn. Repeat from ** 7 more times.
Next row: S c in each of 4 sts, ch 4 (for buttonhole), skip 4 sts, s c in each of next 4 sts, ch 1, turn. Work 2 more rows of s c. Fasten off. Make a similar tab (without buttonhole) at center of foundation ch, insert ring and fasten down tab with a row of sl sts.
Front: Ch to measure 4½ inches. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each st of ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each st across. Repeat 2nd row until piece is same as width of back. Then work 4 more rows. Make a fold between 4th and 5th rows and over these rows work a row of s c on right side. Make a similar row at other end.
Place front on back piece, down 1¼ inches from foundation ch. Whip along sides. Make interlining of buckram or similar stiffening material, cover with suitable lining material and sew into bag. Sew button to bag to correspond to buttonhole of tab. To fasten, put tab through ring and button down.
