This pattern is called The Contintental in Spool Cotton #57, Crocheted and Knitted Bags.

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 4 balls of White, or any color desired, size 10. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.

Make ch to measure 7 inches, turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each st of foundation ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd and subsequent rows: S c in each s c of previous row, ch 1, turn. Continue in pattern until work measures 8½ inches. Break off. Attach thread 1½ inches in from end of last row and work over the center 4 inches, back and forth, for about 1 inch. Break off.

Gussets: (Make 2.) Make a chain an inch long, turn. Work s c's over ch, back and forth, until work measures 5½ inches.

Handle: Make a chain two inches long, turn and work s c over ch, back and forth, until handle measures desired length (about 9 inches). Sew gussets in bag, as in illustration, whipping on wrong side. Then sew the two long sides of handle together, to give tubing effect and sew to ends of gussets. Finish edges of flap with a row of s c, line bag and fasten with snap.
