Materials: J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, or Clark's O.N.T. Knit-Crochet, 1 ball each of color 106 Sport Green and 84 Beige. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 2.

Use thread double throughout, working with one strand of Green and one strand of Beige.

To begin, ch 13. 1st row: S c in 3rd ch from hook, s c in each st of ch (Use in all), ch 2, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Ch 2, turn. 3rd row: S c in 1st s c, then thread over as for making a d c. Insert hook in sp between 2nd and 3rd s c's of 1st row, bring hook out through sp between 3rd and 4th s c's and complete d c. * Skip 2nd s c of previous row (the one which lies behind the d c just made), s c in next s c of previous row. Then thread over as for a d c, insert hook in next sp of 1st row, and complete d c as before. Repeat from *, ending row with s c in last st (5 d c in all). Ch 2, turn. 4th row: S c in each st across. Ch 2, turn.

5th row: S c in 1st s c of previous row, * then make a d c by putting the hook under the 1st d c of the 3rd row, skip next s c of previous row (the one which lies behind the d c just made), s c in next s c. Repeat from * ending row with s c in last st. Ch 2, turn. 6th row: Same as 4th row. 7th to 11th rows incl: Repeat 5th and 6th rows alternately. Then ch 4, turn. 12th row: Skip 1 st, d c in top of next st (not under d c), * ch 1, skip 1 st, d c in top of next, and repeat from * 3 more times. Ch 2, turn. 13th row: S c in 1st d c, 3 s c in 1st sp (to shape edge), s c in each d c and in each sp to end of row (13 s c in all), ch 2, turn.

14th row: S c in each s c. Ch 2, turn. 15th row: Same as 3rd row (with an additional d c). Repeat from beginning of 4th row, thus increasing 2 sts in 1st sp of each row with sps.

Work in this manner, making 1 sp more than in previous row of sps and 1 d c more than in previous section of d c ridges until 5 sections are made. (9 d c ridges.)

Ch 2, turn, and make 9 d c sps over this section. This row is center of tie-back. Ch 2, turn. Next row: Make 1 s c in each sp and 1 s c in each d c (thus decreasing) and finish section as before. (9 d c ridges in all.) Hereafter in making rows of sps, in each row of sps make 1 sp less than previous row of sps, making 8 sps for next row, 7 sps for next, etc. In making the 1st rows of s c over row of sps, make 1 s c in each sp and 1 s c in each d c. When 5 more sections are made, fasten and break off.

With Sport Green make a loop on one end and work a row of s c over it. Cover a button to sew on other end. Make a tassel of about 150 strands 8 inches long and sew under button.
