J. & P. COATS CROCHET CORD, 2 balls of White or Ecru, or 3 balls of any color.
Steel crochet hook No. 6.
This amount of material is sufficient to make 6 glass jackets.
Starting at center of base, ch 3. 1st rnd: 9 h dc in 3rd ch from hook. Sl st in top st of starting ch (10 sts, counting turning ch as 1 h dc). Hereafter work only in the back loop of each h dc. 2nd rnd: Ch 2 (to count as h dc), h dc in same place as sl st, 2 h dc in each st around (20 sts). Join with sl st in top st of 1st ch-2. 3rd to 7th rnds incl: Ch 2, h dc in each st around, increasing 10 h dc in each rnd—to inc a h dc, make 2 h dc in 1 st. Join. There should be 70 h dc in 7th rnd, and piece should now measure 2¾ inches in diameter. This completes base of glass jacket. Do not fasten off but work side as follows: 1st to 4th rnds incl: Ch 2, h dc in each st around. Join. 5th rnd: Ch 2, h dc in next 8 sts, * skip 2 sts, 6 tr in next st, skip 2 sts, h dc in next 9 sts. Repeat from * around. Join last tr in top st of 1st ch-2. 6th rnd: Sl st in next st, ch 2, h dc in next 6 sts, * ch 2, sc between 1st 2 tr, (ch 3, sc between next 2 tr) 4 times; ch 2, skip 1 h dc, h dc in next 7 sts. Repeat from * around. Join.
7th rnd: Sl st in next st, ch 2, h dc in next 4 sts, * (ch 3, sc in next ch-3 loop) 4 times; ch 3, skip 1 h dc, h dc in next 5 sts. Repeat from * around. Join. 8th rnd: Sl st in next st, ch 2, h dc in next 2 sts, * ch 3, skip next ch-3, sc in next loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) twice; ch 3, skip next ch-3 and 1 h dc, h dc in next 3 sts. Repeat from * around. Join. 9th rnd: Sl st in next st, ch 7 (to count as h dc and ch 5), * skip next ch-3, sc in next loop, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 5, skip next ch-3 and 1 h dc, h dc in next st, ch 5.
