MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 3 balls (1 oz. balls) of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 5.
22 inches of elastic.

Gauge: 7 sts make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at crotch, ch 21. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: 3 d c where ch-4 started, d c in each s c across, 3 d c and 1 tr in last st. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: S c in 2nd, 3rd and 4th ch's from hook, s c in each st across row. Insert hook where last s c was made, * yarn over and pull loop through, yarn over and draw through 1 loop (a foundation ch), yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops; insert hook in foundation ch just made and repeat from * 2 more times. Ch 4, turn. 4th to 10th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately. Work without increasing until piece measures 10½ inches, making ch-3 to turn at end of s c-rows and ch-1 at end of d c-rows. Fasten off. Make another piece like this. Sew up crotch and side seams. Make a 1½-inch hem at waistline. Run elastic through hem. Work row of s c around leg openings.

LEG BANDS … Ch 5, s c in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch. Ch 1, turn. Make s c in s c for necessary length. Sew bands in place so that they do not extend beyond outer edges of pants.
