Baby Bunting Pattern #5049

Approximately 38 inches along straight edges

MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 14 balls (1 oz. balls) of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 4.
4½ yds. of silk blanket binding.

Ribbon: 1 yd. of ⅞-inch width and 3 yds. of ¼-inch width.

Gauge: 3 loop-clusters make 1 inch; 3 rows make 1 inch.

Make a chain 42 inches long. 1st row: Yarn over, insert hook in 4th ch from hook and pull loop through; (yarn over, insert hook where last loop was drawn through and pull loop through) twice; yarn over, skip 1 ch, insert hook in next ch and pull loop through; yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 (a loop-cluster). * Yarn over, insert hook where last loop was drawn through and pull loop through. Repeat from * 2 more times, yarn over, skip 1 ch, insert hook in next ch and complete loop-cluster. Continue making loop-clusters until row measures 38 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook and pull loop through; (yarn over, insert hook where last loop was drawn through and draw loop through) twice; skip 1 st, insert hook in next st and pull loop through; yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1. Yarn over, insert hook where last loop was drawn through and complete a loop-cluster. Continue thus across. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row for 29 inches. Now work in pattern, decreasing 1 loop-cluster at one edge only (always make decreases at same edge) every 3rd row 4 times—to dec. a loop-cluster at beginning of row, sl st across 1st loop-cluster; at end of row work to within last loop-cluster—turn. Then dec. 1 loop-cluster every other row 3 times. Now dec. 1 loop-cluster each row 10 times. Dec. 2 loop-clusters on each of next 2 rows. Fasten off.

Bind edges with blanket binding, embroidering with double feather stitching; leave embroidery open at both ends of curve. Cut narrow ribbon in half and draw 1 piece through binding along curve; pull out ends. Hold cover diagonally, curve at top. Measure off 9½ inches down from top of curved edge on wrong side; mark with a pin. With pins complete a curve, having pin-mark at center, and ending at outer edges of curve. For casing, sew wider ribbon along this curve, leaving open for 1 inch at center pin-mark. Draw other piece of narrow ribbon through casing; tack ends in place and draw a ribbon loop through opening at center.
