MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 5 balls (1 oz. balls) of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 4.
7 small buttons.

Gauge: 3 pattern sts make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

PANTS. Front … Starting at waistline, ch 61 to measure about 11 inches. 1st row: S c and d c in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 1 ch, s c and d c in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * Make s c and d c (a pattern st) in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row, increasing a pattern st at both ends of row every 2 inches 3 times—to inc. make a pattern st in both sts of first and last pattern sts. Work straight until piece measures 6¼ inches. Dec. 3 pattern sts at both ends of each row 5 times—to dec. 3 pattern sts at beginning of row, sl st across 1st 3 pattern sts; at end of row, work to within last 3 pattern sts, turn. Now work s c across, making three ch-5 loops. Fasten off. Make another piece like this for Back, omitting loops.

BLOUSE. Front … (Worked vertically) Starting at bottom of left underarm edge, ch 15 to measure 2½ inches and work 2 rows in pattern st. Ch 19 (thus starting left shoulder), turn. Next row: S c in 2nd ch from hook and in next 17 ch; s c in each s c and in each d c across. Ch 1, turn. Following row: S c in each s c across, picking up only the back loop of each st. Repeat this last row until s c-section measures 1¼ inches. Work 4 rows in pattern st. Next row: Work in pattern st, decreasing 5 pattern sts at shoulder edge (neck shaping). Work 2 more pattern rows (pattern section should measure 1¼ inches deep). Keeping neck edge straight, work 1¼ inches of s c's, 1¼ inches of pattern st and 1¼ inches of s c's. Work 3 rows of pattern st. Ch 11 at neck edge (right shoulder) and work to correspond with other end. Fasten off.

BACK … Work as for Front, making neck edge 3 pattern sts lower than shoulder edge.

SLEEVES … Starting at bottom, ch 37 to measure about 7 inches and work 8 inches in pattern. Fasten off.

WAISTBAND … Ch 11. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c, picking up only the back loop of each st. Ch 1, turn. Repeat this row for 18 inches. Fasten off.

SLEEVE BANDS … Ch 16 and work 5 inches as for waistband.

LEG BANDS … Ch 7 and work 9 inches as for waistband. Sew up all side seams. Sew waistband and leg bands in place, easing in fullness. Starting at armhole, seam shoulders for 1 inch. Sew bands to sleeves and sew in sleeves.

NECK BAND … Work a band along front half of neck opening as for waistband for ½ inch in depth, decreasing at corners to keep work flat. Work band along Back in same way. Work a row of s c along shoulder openings, making two ch-5 loops on each side of Front. Sew on buttons at shoulders and crotch.
