INSERTION No. 8517A … * Ch 15, drop loop from hook, insert hook from right of ch to 15th ch from hook and draw loop through, do not turn but make 11 s c in ring, ch 5, s c in 5th ch from hook (p). Repeat from * across for desired length. Do not break off but work along other side of rings, making 11 s c in each ring and ch-5 p between rings, ending with sl st in 1st s c made. Do not break off but work along one long side as follows: Ch 8, s c in center of 11-s c group on ring, ** ch 5, s c in p, ch 5, s c in center s c of 11-s c group in next ring. Repeat from ** across, ending with ch 8, s c at outer end of last ring. Work along opposite side in same manner. Fasten off.
EDGING No. 8517B … Work center section as for insertion. Do not break off but work heading as follows: Sl st to within center s c of 1st s c-group, s c in center s c, * ch 4, s c in ch-5 p, ch 4, s c in center s c of next s c-group. Repeat from * across to center s c of last s c-group incl., ch 7, s c at tip of s c-group at end, ch 7 and work scallops along opposite side as follows:
1st row: * In next ch-5 p make 8 d tr with ch-2 between, ch 2, s c in next ch-5 p, ch 2. Repeat from * across, turn. 2nd row: * Ch 5, s c in next sp (a loop). Repeat from * to within last ch-2 sp between last 2 d tr of 1st scallop, ch 2, s c between 1st 2 d tr of next scallop, ch 5, s c in next sp and continue thus across. Fasten off.
