Starting at center ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 7 s c in ring. 2nd rnd: S c in each s c around. 3rd rnd: * D c in next s c, s c in same s c. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: * S c in next d c, d c in next sc. Repeat from * around. 5th rnd: * In next s c make 1 d c, 1 s c, 1 d c. S c in next d c. Repeat from * around. 6th rnd: Same as 4th rnd. 7th rnd: * In next s c make: 1 d c, 1 s c, 1 d c. S c in next d c, d c in next s c, s c in next d c. Repeat from * around. 8th to 11th rnds incl: Repeat 4th and 3rd rnds alternately. 12th rnd: S c in next d c, * in next s c make: 1 d c, 1 s c, 1 d c. Then (s c in next d c, d c in next s c) 5 times, s c in next d c. Repeat from * around. Join rnd with sl st. Break off. Attach color A. 13th rnd: Same as 3rd rnd. 14th rnd: Same as 4th rnd. Join rnd with sl st. Break off. Attach color B. 15th rnd: * In next s c make: 1 d c, 1 s c, 1 d c. (S c in next d c, d c in next s c) 7 times, s c in next d c. Repeat from * around. 16th rnd: Same as 4th rnd. Work 3 rnds straight. Then attach main color and work 1 rnd in the same manner. Break off.

Crown Trimming: With main color make a chain 12 inches long, turn. Sl st in each st across. Break off. At one end of chain, make 3 loops, each 1½ inches long. Wind remainder of chain around loops half way to the top and fasten end securely. Sew trimming to top of hat.
