Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet Size 30, 3 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook, No. 6.

Antimacassar: (10¼ x 12½ inches) Ch 167, turn. 1st row: 1 d c in the 4th ch st from hook, 1 d c in each of the next 3 ch sts, ch 2, skip 2 ch, 1 d c in next ch st, ch 2, skip 2 sts, * 1 d c in each of next 10 sts, ch 8, skip 7 ch sts, repeat from * to within 9 sts of other end of row, ch 2 skip 2, 1 d c in next ch st, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in each of the next 4 ch sts, ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 1 d c in each of the 1st 3 d c of the previous row, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in next d c, ch 2, skip 2, * 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in each of next 4 d c, ch 8, repeat from * to within 9 sts of end of row, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in d c of previous row, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in each of next 4 d c of previous row, ch 3, turn.

3rd row: 1 d c in each of 1st 3 d c of previous row, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in next d c, ch 2, skip 2, * 1 d c in each of next 2 d c, ch 2, skip 2 d c, 2 d c in sp (made by ch-2 of previous row), ch 2, skip 2 d c, 1 d c in each of next 2 d c, ch 8, repeat from * to within 9 sts of end of row, finish as in 2nd row, ch 3, turn. 4th row: Begin as other rows, with the solid edge of 3 d c and 2 sps, * 1 d c in each of 2 d c, 2 d c in next sp, ch 2, 2 d c in next sp, 1 d c in each of next 2 d c, ch 4, 1 s c (over the 2 rows of ch 8), into the 4th ch st of the 1st ch of 8, ch 4, repeat from * to within 9 sts of end of row, and finish as other rows, ch 3, turn. 5th row: Begin as other rows, * 1 d c in each of 1st 4 d c, 2 d c in sp, 1 d c in each of next 4 d c, ch 8. Repeat from * to within 9 sts of end of row, complete same as other rows. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rows, until there are 8 bls of pattern, or 33 rows in all, break thread, turn.

34th row: Attach thread with s c at the end of 1st bl, ch 8, repeat 2nd row (omitting the side edges and 1 bl at each side), continue to work pattern for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rows, and again drop 1 bl at the sides, leaving but 3 blocks to work upon. Continue the pattern on these 3 bls until there are 11 bls in depth.

Heading: Attach thread at one side of the even edge of piece, s c across sufficient for piece to lie flat, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in first st, ch 4, sl st back into 1st ch st which forms p, * 1 s c in each of next 4 sts, p, repeat from * to end of row. Fasten off.

Lace edge: S c 1 row across piece at bottom, ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 1 s c, * ch 6, sl st in 4th ch from hook for p, ch 2, skip 3 sts, s c in next st, repeat from * to end of row, ch 7, turn. 3rd row: Sl st back into 4th ch from hook for p, ch 2, sl st in first p of previous row, * ch 6, sl st in 4th ch from hook for p, ch 2, sl st in next p, repeat from * to end of row. Fasten off.

Arm Pieces: (7 x 10¾ inches) Ch 98, break thread. Count back 22 sts of the ch and in the 22nd st attach thread with 1 s c, ch 4, skip 3 sts, 1 d c in each of next 10 ch sts, ch 8, skip 7 ch sts, 1 d c in each of next 10 ch sts, ch 8, skip 7 ch sts, 1 d c in each of next 10 ch sts, ch 4, skip 3 sts, 1 s c in next st, turn, ch 4. Work 4 rows of pattern as in chairback, break thread. 5th row: Attach thread in the 1st st of foundation ch with 1 d c, work 1 d c in each of next 3 ch sts, ch 2, skip 2 ch sts, 1 d c in next st, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in each of next 10 sts, ch 8. Continue same as 1st row for the 3 bls, ch 8, skip over cluster of ch sts, also 4 sts of foundation ch, 1 d c in 5th st and 1 d c in each of next 9 ch sts, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in next st, ch 2, skip 2, 1 d c in each of next 4 sts, ch 3, turn.

6th row: Continue in block pattern as in chairback until there are 10 bls in depth from center depth. Break thread, turn. 42nd row: Attach thread with s c at end of 1st bl, ch 8, repeat 2nd row (omitting the side solid edges and 1 bl at each side). Continue to work pattern across these 3 bls until there are 11 bls in depth. Break thread.

Lace edge: Work on both ends of piece the same lace edge as on chairback at bottom.
