Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"PURITAN" MERCERIZED CROCHET
AND KNITTING COTTON
112 yds. White.
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
1 60-yd. Ball Red.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

FRONT SECTION. With Red, ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 3 and work 15 d c in ring, join. (16 d c.)
2nd Row—Puff st in each st with ch 1 between each puff st, (puff st: thread over needle, insert in st and pull up the length of a d c, * thread over needle, insert in same space and pull up same length, repeat from * twice, thread over and pull through all loops but one, thread over and pull through 2 loops).
3rd Row—Attach White and work 3 d c between each puff st, join.
4th Row—Ch 3, * puff st in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, repeat from * all around ending row with 1 d c in next st, join.
5th Row—With Red, 2 s c in each st.
6th Row—With White, 1 d c in each s c.
7th Row—Same as 4th row.
8th Row—1 d c in each st.
9th Row—With Red, 1 s c in each d c increasing 1 s c in every 3rd st, break thread.
CIRCLES. With White, ch 7, join to form a ring, ch 4, counts as 1 tr c) and work 23 tr c in ring, join, (24 tr c) break thread.
2nd Row—With Red, 1 s c in each tr c increasing 1 s c in every 3rd st, break thread and work 15 more circles in same manner. On right side sew 2 circles together holding to form a ridge. Sew remaining circles together in same manner and sew circles around front section as illustrated.
BACK SECTION. With Red, ch 6, join to form a ring and work 16 d c in ring, join.
2nd Row—1 d c in each d c with ch 1 between each d c, join.
3rd Row—With White, 3 d c in each mesh, join each row.
4th Row—1 d c in each d c.
5th Row—With Red, 2 s c in each d c.
6th Row—With White, 1 d c in each s c.
7th Row—With Red, 1 d c in each d c.
8th Row—With White, 1 d c in each d c.
9th Row—With Red, 1 s c in each d c increasing 1 s c in every 3rd st.
10th Row—With White, 1 d c in each s c.
11th Row—1 d c in each d c increasing 11 sts in low evenly spaced.
12th Row—With Red, 1 s d c in next d c, (s d c: thread over, insert in st and work off all loops at one time) 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, 2 tr c in next d c, 1 tr c in next d c, 2 tr c in next d c, 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, 1 s d c in next d c, repeat from beginning all around. Sew the two sections together.
LOOP. With Red, wrap around 2 fingers 5 times, then work 35 s c over loop and sew to potholder as illustrated.
