Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"PURITAN" MERCERIZED CROCHET
AND KNITTING COTTON
46 yds. White.
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
73 yds. Yellow, 25 yds. Black, 36 yds. Green.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

With Yellow, ch 6, join to form a ring, * ch 4, 5 tr c in ring, ch 3, turn, 2 d c in 1st tr c, 1 tr c in each of the next 4 sts, 3 d c in 4th st of ch, ch 3, turn.
Next Row—2 d c, in 1st d c, 1 tr c in each d c and tr c, 3 d c in 4th st of ch, ch 3, turn. Repeat last row 5 times, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—1 s c in next 2 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, (s d c: thread over, insert in st, pull through and work off all loops at one time) 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 tr c in each st to within the last 8 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s c in next 2 sts, break thread. Join Yellow in ring and repeat from * for 2nd petal.
3rd PETAL. * Join Yellow in ring, ch 4, 5 tr c in ring, ch 3, turn, 3 d c in 1st tr c, 1 tr c in each of the next 4 sts, 4 d c in 4th st of ch, ch 3, turn.
Next Row—3 d c in 1st d c, 1 tr c in each d c and tr c, 4 d c in 4th st of ch, ch 3, turn. Repeat last row 4 times, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—1 s c in next 2 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 tr c in each st to within the last 8 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s c in next 2 sts, break thread.
Repeat from * for 2 more petals. Join Black in ring and work a row of s c around all petals. With Black, embroider last 3 petals as illustrated using long and short st. Tack petals in position overlapping as illustrated.
BACK. With White, ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3, 11 d c in ring, join in ch 3, (join each row in ch 3).
2nd & 3rd Rows—Ch 3, d c in same space, * 2 d c in next d c, repeat from * all around.
4th Row—Ch 3, d c in same space, * d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, repeat from * all around, d c in next st.
5th Row—1 d c in each d c increasing in every 3rd st.
6th & 7th Rows—Work even.
8th Row—1 d c in each d c increasing in every 4th st.
9th Row—1 d c in each d c increasing in every 5th st.
10th Row—1 d c in each d c increasing in every 6th st, break thread.
11th Row—Attach Yellow, ch 3, turn and work 1 d c in each st.
12th Row—1 d c in each st increasing in every 7th st.
13th Row—Work even.
14th Row—* Skip 2 sts, 4 d c with ch 1 between each d c in next d c, skip 2 sts, s c in next st, repeat from * all around, ch 20, s c in next st and cover loop with 30 s c, sl st in same space, break thread.
Sew pansy in position on back section as illustrated.
