Potholder Pattern #9421

MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball of Cream … Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 ... A bone ring ... Scraps of felt of a contrasting color.

Make a chain to measure about 8 inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 6 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in 2nd and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each dc across and in top st of starting chain. Ch 3, turn. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 6 inches square, ending with an sc row. Break off. Make another piece same as this.
     Cut a bunch of grapes and leaves of felt and sew in place on one side only. Cut a narrow zigzag band of felt and sew all around edges of same side. Sew on bone ring.

PADDING … Cut flannel or cotton batting slightly smaller, and lining material slightly larger, than crocheted piece. Place padding between crocheted piece and lining. Turn under edges of lining and sew to edges of crocheted piece with neat over-and-over stitches. For pot holders consisting of 2 crocheted pieces, insert padding between crochet and sew up edges.
