Potholder Pattern #9417

MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball … Steel Crochet Hook No. 5 … A bone ring … Scraps of felt of a contrasting color.

Use thread double throughout.

Make a chain to measure about 7 inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until piece is square. Break off. Cut 3 ducks of felt in graduated sizes and sew in place as in illustration. Embroider eyes with French knots. Embroider beak, tail and feet with spoke stitches. Cut 2 narrow strips of felt, each about 8 inches long, and cut points on one long side of each strip. Sew strips around opposite corners. Sew on bone ring.

PADDING … Cut flannel or cotton batting slightly smaller, and lining material slightly larger, than crocheted piece. Place padding between crocheted piece and lining. Turn under edges of lining and sew to edges of crocheted piece with neat over-and-over stitches. For pot holders consisting of 2 crocheted pieces, insert padding between crochet and sew up edges.
