Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 5 balls for bath mit and 1 ball for soap pouch.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.

BATH MIT No. 9100-A

Gauge: 4 pc sts make 1 inch; 2 rnds make 1 inch.

Starting at wrist ch 60 to measure about 8 inches; join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 4, make 6 tr in sl st, drop st from hook, insert hook back in 4th st of ch-4 and draw dropped loop through (pc st); * ch 2, skip 1 ch, 7 tr in next ch; drop st from hook, insert hook from back of work in last ch made and draw dropped loop through, thus making pc st on wrong side (a reversed pc st); ch 2, skip 1 ch, make a regular pc st in next ch. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-2 to tip of 1st pc st made. Ch 4 and continue in this manner, making reversed pc sts over regular pc sts and vice versa, with ch-2 between pc sts, joining rnds as before, until piece measures about 1 inch deep. Next rnd: Work to within 1 pc st from center of rnd, work in pattern across next 2 pc sts, increasing 2 pc sts by making a pc st in each ch-1 between (this increased section marks base of thumb); continue in pattern around; join. Repeat this rnd 5 more times. Following rnd: Work across 1st 15 pc sts, omit next 12 pc sts (opening for thumb), and continue across next 15 pc sts. Join. Now work in pattern around until piece measures 7 inches in all, or desired depth. Next rnd: Ch 4, 2 tr in sl st, 4 tr in next pc st and complete a pc st (a decrease); work in pattern across next 11 pc sts, dec. 2 pc sts, work to within last 2 pc sts, dec. a pc st; join. Fasten off. Attach thread to 1st pc st of thumb opening, and work 2 rnds, decreasing 2 pc sts on inner side of thumb (next to hand) and increasing 2 pc sts at outer side. Last rnd: Work in pattern, decreasing 2 pc sts on both sides of thumb. Join and fasten off, leaving a 6-inch thread. Sew up thumb and hand openings.
